I am always torn when seeing a beautiful edition of a book or book series which I already own. I live in a small country with not many bookshops so the books that I have are mainly the standard version. My current dilemma is regarding ASOIAF. I bought two of the books with a gift card that I had won when I was maybe 11 and just left them on the shelf. Around 4 years ago when I realized which books I had just sitting on my shelf I quickly read them, bought the rest of them and they become one of my favorite series. With a series such as this however I hate that I have the standard small ones when there are so many beautiful editions. I understand that the ‘words’ will be the same but the feel that they have is much different.
The only time I did this is with the Harry Potter series. I had the standard small ones from when I was young and recently bought hardcover first editions. The appreciation that I have for that series now is immense due to the beautiful editions that I have.
