They’ve been doing it for decades.

I got pulled over on Mill St. in the early 2000’s - presumably because I, a white female, had several black males in my car. The cops claimed it was because a car similar to mine had been reported stolen in the area (yeah, ok, whatever).

Even after I produced my license and registration proving it to be my car they still made my friends get out and patted them down and proceeded to intimidate them for no reason. They told me to remain in the car. I was pissed but my friends told me they were quite used to it. I really wish smart phones had been a thing at that time.

It was daylight, mid-summer and I was driving them home from work.

I hate Russell for various reasons, but this is a good change that could have a positive impact in the city. IF, and only if, it is well monitored to avoid a bunch of fire-trap shoddy ADUs being tacked on. There are already a lot of houses in the city that have been poorly reno’d by DIY homeowners or crappy flippers. We don’t need people trying to rent out ADU shacks.

It’s actually not that bad. In 2018 I was trying to get rid of a heavy wood island on wheels left by the previous owner of our house and casella was going to charge me $40 to take it away. I just had to get it out to the curb.

It really depends on what you’re throwing away.

Are you in Worcester? Are you talking rooftop solar? Because ground mounts aren’t allowed in the city.

We met with evergreen solar and likely plan to go forward with them sometime this year. I have friends who had a good experience with sun run.

There are plenty of options, but it really depends on where beds (or spots) are available and what your insurance will cover. I might start by calling your insurer to get a list of covered programs and then start calling programs to see who has an open bed.

Good luck OP, you can do this!

I don’t mind them and wish they would put a few in my neighborhood bc people have been using it to cut between Salisbury and pleasant for years.

I’d prefer permanent speed humps. As long as they aren’t like the ones that providence has (along with a gazillion speed cameras). They didn’t even paint them, they’re the same color as the road and in the most random spots.

Coming from landlocked areas, you should take some time to check out Portland (and surrounding areas) and Rhode Island. The ocean in general is FAR more accessible in Maine and RI than it is in most parts of MA.

Portland is just a really cool city with great dispensaries and an awesome waterfront concert venue. You can take a ferry to the harbor islands or visit a Bigfoot museum.

Providence is an amazing mix of everything with great food and if you drive 40 minutes south RI has some fabulous beaches. And really, you can get a lobster roll almost anywhere in New England, but RI has its own cuisine that is worth checking out - hot weiners, clam cakes, coffee milk, Del’s, stuffies…

Conventional electric heat in MA is almost always more expensive than gas or oil (not including electric heat pumps which are more efficient). It makes sense that it would be even worse this year with the enormous rate hikes.

I don’t think I’ve ever turned my heat above 60 at night. She’ll be fine. A down comforter, a programmable thermostat and being open to chilly nighttime bathroom trips could save her some money.

It can be tough to keep a kid entertained during the winter breaks in Worcester. There just isn’t that much in the area that feels worth it for the amount it costs. And there’s almost nothing thats free outside of sledding and playing at a park. If you’re up for a bit of driving you’ll have more options.

Things we have done to keep busy (some these may not be entirely appropriate for the 3 year old):

Trampolines at Launch

Bowling

Tubing at Ward - isn’t cheap, but fun.

Art museum

Ecotarium

Dave and Busters at the Natick Mall

Discovery museum in Acton (11 and 13 y/o might think this is lame - depends on their personalities)

West Boylston cinemas - is cheap, still fun

Ice skating at the oval

Free options:

If it snows, sledding at green hill park or Quinsigamond CC

If it’s not too cold go kick a soccer ball around at a park while the 3 year old plays on the playground. If they prefer basketball head to Dean park in Shrewsbury, the basketball court is right near the playground.

There are some people on nextdoor absolutely LOSING it about the choice of the church on pleasant st to replace the hotel Grace beds. Thankfully there were far more who countered them and said that it was gross to fight against an emergency shelter for homeless people so they won’t die of exposure.

We need more beds and the city needs to be VERY careful about who they choose to partner with to run the shelters. Hotel Grace had some serious problems because of lack of oversight by the city.

There are like, 4 tables inside, not really a sit down with the family and eat kind of place. Mostly because it’s small and there are lots of books for sale right next to the tables and if you have younger kids it’s very distracting. We usually take our stuff to go.

That said, in the nice weather they have a couple tables right outside that I’d be more inclined to sit at with my kid.
