We also just simply have more people that break the law, tell me any other first world country where you can shoplift 100 times and still be walking the streets. I can promise you in Japan, for example, that would not be the case.

And what happens if/most likely when they’re found inevitably guilty. Are we then okay with the prison sentence? Or do we just want to get rid of jails all together? The majority of people on rikers have violent priors, that’s the reality of the situation.

I mean does anyone think strangulation should be a bailable offense? If anything it shows how we should be harder on violent assaults and have them be a no bail offense across the board, not that there should be no pretrial incarceration which is what many people are implying.

The OP of the other thread who apparently put up these signs did say it was targeted at electric scooters as well, or any vehicle that goes 35+ mph.

This was literally just posted and removed. Assuming the mods don’t want this sub to turn into a micromobility/bike crosspost sub. Maybe a micromobility mega thread isn’t the worst idea.

Since the mayor and governor started this new safety initiative fare jumping summonses have increased exponentially. That should give the MTA a nice boost in revenue.

They just need a little more. They’re super serious that it’ll be spent efficiently this time!

Also, the people that are joining are largely PoC, no one talks about how we have probably the most diverse police dept on the country. Gotta love white elitist that scream that PoC police officers are somehow “racist”.

Not wanting to normalize hardcore drug use has now become a “right wing” ideology.

How about you be the change we need and join the NYPD, they are hiring. If all of the “policing experts” from Reddit joined the NYPD we would have a perfect police department!

You’re the one who excused it. The OP never said it was the only crime, or the most important crime, they just pointed out that it’s ridiculous and should be enforced and then you snarkily called them a “pearl clutcher”. But okay.

Smoking a blunt (or anything) in an enclosed train car or platform is an extremely selfish douchebag move. No amount of virtue signaling will change that.

Yea, why have a functioning civilized society, it’s not like we pay some of the highest taxes in the country or anything.

Probably better on the streets then on a platform where someone can be shoved into an oncoming train, or in an enclosed train car.

Ideally he’d been placed on a psych hold, but if directed at some one, definitely menacing. It’s also against the MTAs code of conduct to act aggressively so removal from the system at the very least.

It’s funds specifically from the state, the governor could petition Washington to provide more funds if necessary. This isn’t part of the NYPDs budget.

It’s definitely not because they’re “softer on crime”. Japan has extremely strict drug laws, for example. Mere possession, even in small amounts, usually leads to years of jail time. Something that here you would even be bothered for.
