During the pandemic, I got bored and started making a custom Google map with the exact location of each entrance/elevator. I think it's particularly important for accessibility reasons because the elevator isn't always near where the station "M" is on the map and sometimes aren't very obvious where they are.

The Transit app does show where each actual station entrance is, including elevator entrances.

Unfortunately not the easiest to get to by Metro. There is a bus that drops right outside the park and more buses another 10 min walk away, but headways can be long, especially on weekends, if you don't time it properly. Doable though for someone motivated enough, and should be better once the yellow line gets running again.

But yea, Huntley Meadows is awesome

Mark I thoroughly appreciate your response. Truth told just writing down what I wrote, and sending it out to the DC subreddit is the help I was seeking. One day I’m going to send something out and a survivor of Montgomerys predation is going to see it and reach out. Knowing that there are others out there, and not being able to share our experiences is difficult for me. It would be really validating to talk to someone that has stood in the guys presence and knows what I know about him. Because his name is still remembered with a ton of undeserved admiration. And that just doesn’t sit well with me.

I’m a public educator for over 13 years in the district . We work tirelessly to intervene and serve our students and families . We are failed by the city at most ventures . It wasn’t always this bad , but since 2019 things have been going downhill , fast . Specific examples are CFSA screening out actual , provable abuse ( even on camera ). We learned years ago that they’ll be no help , they keep passing the buck back to schools . The reality is that we are not resourced to support all community challenges . MPD and the city also do NOTHING regarding truancy . Do you know how many student we have with a 50% or less attendance rate and absolutely nothing happens to their parents . I vote in every election , support statehood activities where I can and also belong to a community -based service organization. Also support high -stakes senate elections by volunteering for their campaigns . I serve this city well and continue to watch it deteriorate at an alarming rate with ( seemingly ) no action to address any real issues affecting our city.

They could get smarter about when to activate one-ways automatically. Elevators even know what floor they should be on depending on time of day. Small problem is that when folks are swarming the gates at busy stations, they can't see the red through the crowd, so will keep crowding. Just a guess. It may also cause accessibility issues for folks with visibility issues who'd get confused about which gates will be active apparently randomly.

Organize. Mobilize. Build coalitions. Organize. Mobilize. Build coalitions. Organize. Mobilize. Build coalitions.

How can community members help here? Each of us have tools we can leverage and collectively we can make a sizable impact. For those of us who have studied state development, the power of religious institutions is large. For example, in Italy the coercive power of religion can be seen in the menacingly large religious painting of God at the Uffizi Gallery. Before we had kings/queens/presidents, we had religious figures, who people were taught to fear!

Technology has helped level the playing field. Happy to connect with you more to be of service - and I am sure there are plenty of other folks on this thread who share the same sentiment.
