I thought that was the whole point behind cafes. It’s part of the vibe/experience being able to sit and chill there

I've gotten in/out on a weekday before 8:30AM. It is a crap shoot depending on the latest article, IG post came out lol
It's good and I've been getting them when they started as a pop up at Purple but not something I'd wait in line for (and Im a "will wait in line for food" kinda person lol)

I've only had Bethesda bagels once, but if I recall bagels etc was a bit more doughy and way more flavorful (not the toppings, but the actual bagel dough has a delicious almost nutty flavor)

How does bagels etc compare to Bethesda Bagels?

Nowhere is remotely competitive on the bagels. I think Call Your Mother has different but pretty good bagel sandwiches. (Not that I'll ever pass up bagels etc if I'm in the area.)

The GW deli has really good stuff usually for pretty cheap tho it gets pretty busy at lunchtime and when the school across the street gets out

Yesterday we went to a museum. On the way home we made a pit stop at McDonald's off NY ave / 50 side of town. Some drugged up idiot hit my car THREE times (not that hard of hits...but still) trying to park, while laying on her horn with every move. Then she hit two more parked cars. She dumped her passenger, or he bailed on his own accord and she took off. The Cadillac SUV she hit tried to follow her pulling some bizzare I turns and wrong way turns.
👀💀

Judy and her crew could make any operation more efficient. 3yrs of living next door to this place gave me such an appreciation for their system. If there wasn’t a line, I was out of there in <3 minutes with an amazing sandwich in hand.

Reply to comment by rolo-lolo in Home Owners of DC: what does your 2024 tax assessment look like? by DC-DE
Ah ok. I took a look at the property tax sheet. While the ASSESSED value increased by 17%, the taxable part increased by….exactly on the dot 10%. I was confusing assessment with the taxable portion. Shoutout to u/rolo-lolo and u/Gumburcules
Sorry everyone, all this tax stuff is not my thing.

Enjoy. City, metropolitan, and suburban folks can have it and keep it all. I like my 10 acres up here in the Sierra Nevada mountain range just fine.

I grew up in DC in a part of town with no metro service and crappy bus service. Driving became de rigueur. Once you learn to navigate the backstreets and avoid the choke points DC is not that bad of a driving city.

Or its being used to chauffer someone who can't walk or ride a bike, and would have a hard time utilizing public transit. Because it's peak smug jackass to assume everyone who uses a car is too lazy to walk.

It’s because the WFH crowd will grab every table to camp out all day, turning the café into a coworking space.

Or, like me, your driving an elderly relative who can't walk anymore to see them. When you assume you make an ass out of you and me.

Personally I’m less inclined to get coffee anywhere that doesn’t allow me to take a seat and actually enjoy it.

Is there honestly a difference with the crowds pre-covid? I don't go out mid week but if we go out to a cafe/bakery on the weekend I'm generally shocked when there's any available seating anywhere.
