Data collection should be illegal without personally negotiating with the subject on a price.
Wanna collect my data for free? Fuck you. Wanna collect my data by paying me $100 per data point per day? Be my guest.

I would think if they tried to use evidence obtained this way, it would be thrown out.

That might be an individual Italian law, or atleast something besides GDPR. GDPR has no such mandate.

No, what the hell are you talking about? There is no built-in ad blocker in Edge.
What they do have is a tracker blocker, which helps prevent sites serving you personalized ads, but the ads themselves are still shown to you regardless.

We have to stop expecting companies to do the right thing on their own. They won't. They never will. Pass the damn regulations.

Reply to comment by JohnnyZondo in Meta stops offering remote work in new job postings as Mark Zuckerberg pushes the benefits of coming to the office by Ben_aid
Back in the pre-rona days, I did actually work for a tech company that gave us a transportation stipend (AFAIK it was given to all employees). It was ~150USD per month, IIRC. Didn't cover my commute time, but it did cover the cost of bussing to the office and back every day. (~1hr and 2.75USD each way every weekday; I was otherwise making 28USD/hr (later 35/hr) as a junior SDET.)
Then 'rona happened and the transportation stipend went away. Instead, we got to apply for reimbursement for the cost of our Internet every month, up to a maximum of 70USD/month (which was nice, although my home Internet cost ~85/month).

It's not mandated in the US, unlike the rest of the world.

Reply to comment by ArmsForPeace84 in Virgin Orbit fails to secure funding, will cease operations and lay off nearly entire workforce by getBusyChild
The problem with virgin orbital is that they did exclusively air-launched rockets, which have a hard limit on the payload size that makes manned flight pretty much impossible (i.e. if it won't fit under a 747 wing, it won't fly). Moreover, air-launched rockets have been all but obsolete ever since Space-X and Rocket Lab have proved first-stage recovery to be reliable and extremely economical.

I am surprised they sell new cars without an immobilizer installed. Seems like such a trivial thing to install compared to all the other electronics in a vehicle.

It sounds crazy because it's not what it's being asked of openAI, the regulator complain that openAI hasn't put anything in place to check if the user is a minor, which is a reasonable complaint. They are not asking openAI to collect more data for the sake of it, but to refuse access to minors
