I made a report to springfield animal control back at the end of january about two loose pitbulls in this area (North of Division, between Glenstone and National). They marked the report resolved, and I saw both of those dogs wandering a week later off of Glenstone under the train overpass just past Division. One was black and tan, the other was white and tan. The black dog Ive seen wandering on its own and was the one that charged at my neighbor's chihuahua. This probably isnt that helpful, but im pretty pissed there are still two aggressive animals on the loose in my neighborhood.

Both SGF citizen and the News-Leader have free newsletters you can get sent to your email. Both give you a couple of free articles but require a subscription for full access.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend paying the subscription fee for one/both of them. I've had a much better time keeping up to date since I subbed and it feels nice to support local journalism.

It’s universally been proven: adding a lane just draws more drivers to that route.

I watch my boss leave everyday at 5p to drive East on Chestnut, south on 65, west on 60…to exit at Chesterfield Village. This route makes absolutely no sense. No map app would recommend this. But he “feels” that no lights is faster.

Remember when 65 was closed a few years back? He and all those other drivers that shouldn’t be driving there in the first place…found themselves more convenient routes along Glenstone, National, Campbell, Kansas Expy, West Bypass.

People make poor decisions and don’t understand maps. We should add navigation questions to our driving tests.

City Code Chapter 18 deals with animals in general. Relevant sections: Section 18-24, Keeping of Fowl: 144 sq foot minimum coop size, 50 foot setback from other dwellings, schools, etc. 12 sq foot minimum for each fowl in an outdoor pen. Section 18-23, Fowl Running at Large: You can free range them only on property owned or controlled by you. Section 18-19, Disposition of Manure from Stables: Chickens are "animals" under the definition of this section, which requires daily cleanup and disposal of all manure into a closed container. This would be a good one for an anti-chicken neighbor to cite. Section 78-113, Prohibited Noises Enumerated: Animal and fowl noises. The keeping of any animal, bird or fowl which, by causing frequent or long continued noise, shall disturb the comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity.

They can have roosters. This is something I have been considering doing myself. Our HOA, however, forbids keeping chickens specifically as the city WILL allow chickens. (Don't forget the city expands into people's backyards all the time)
