One night I was out with a friend and a guy was really pushy about buying her a drink. She felt off about it and didn’t want to take it, but our male friend was like “waste booze? Hell nah.” Within an hour he was incoherent. It wasn’t black out drunk incoherent. It was we had to carry him inside our house incoherent. It’s just a different kind of look than black out drunk. And he didn’t drink that much. It was the beginning of the night. We had all ate dinner before going out.

It’s super victim blamey to take a story about folks getting drugged and being like “sure like they just didn’t drink a ton.” I even had a night, as a person who can really put away booze, that I just don’t remember and only had 3 doubles within 3 hours. That’s not a lot for me. I’m kinda fat. But my whole night was just gone and I woke up on my friends couch cause she took me home when I could no longer form words. She knew I hadn’t drank before so knew something was wrong. Thank god.

I'm not 100% sure why but I was extremely difficult to find specific information about what the program is, until I went through orientation. Even when I applied they didn't even show the pay., I assumed based on reddit comments and reviews, and I wasn't confident until I asked during the interview.

I’m not sure. I’ll have to ask next time I’m out there. I’ve been looking for an affordable flying club in the local area for after my PPL is done, haven’t found much so far. I like the planes Aurora has for rent, but Fulltron is cheaper, if you can get on the schedule - and even then a flying club would be much more economical.

EDIT: the amount of pay is set by the NCS and AmeriCorp, and not by the nonprofit

I'm all a higher minimum wage but this is an interesting type of position. It's associated with a federal program called AmeriCorp VISTA and associated with the Corporation for National and Community Services. VISTA specially partners with nonprofits that serve low income/poverty stricken areas, and provides a few full-time employees for those organizations because they may not have the additional funds to hire a new person but need the help. AmeriCorp also offers an Education stipend (usually around 6,000) for finishing a term of service (up to 2 service terms), and student loan forbearance during service. Very appealing for recent grads looking for good in initial job experience.

However, to the point of pay, it is part of the mission to not be paid more than the people you are serving. So ironically their mission is to help people in poverty by putting people in poverty.

Aurora is a nice airport. I actually took lessons out of there when I was a kid. Do you by any chance know if there's a flying club called Vicious Goose there now? I know it sounds like a weird question but it's a club I was in a couple of years back that was really affordable. Last I'd heard they were moving from sgf to aurora for a cheaper hangar.

for all the horror stories of hearing about cops mag dumping on people for less yeah mad respect for these officers treating the situation so tactfully, with the disney ending you really want to see happen. hope the guy gets better.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them. EAS is definitely more established, and Fulltron is pretty new and has experienced a lot of growing pains. Them taking over 3DW could help or hurt them in that aspect. Best of luck to you!

As far as the airports go, flying out of Aurora is definitely more relaxing. At 3DW there is a tower in the traffic pattern, pattern altitude is 100’ below the floor of SGF’s class C, and 3DW does have some jet and big boy piston traffic. 2H2’s traffic is definitely calmer.
