Thats an interesting POV, very likely if they actually did sign them. But Im assuming they were faked because of the links in the OP.

Logic leaps, if rational, are a not leaps because we do not perceive the invisible steps between them. A machine can make those jump with sufficient instruction and/or autonomy. It’s just constant iteration and refinement along a specific trajectory.
If irrational, then much harder, perhaps that’s what creativity is in some respects.

What makes you believe tha the signatures were faked and not, that the signees have pulled back because of some unpleasant calls from their investors? I would rather believe that nobody would have thought that this letter would create such a wave of uncertainty. It is a clear sign of total desperation because EVERYBODY knows that his will not happen.

John Wick is still on that list 🤣
He's a massage therapist at The Continental.

The real authors of the article must have known that as soon as it was made public, the people of who they faked signatures would announce that they didn't sign it...
So what was the purpose? This was an inevitable outcome. What did they gain from this?

Reply to Commentary of the Future of Life Institute's Open Letter, and Why Emad Mostaque (Stability AI CEO) Likely Signed it by No-Performance-8745
I think Emad Mostaque's signature is hypocritical; in fact, GPT is helping many people, including me. Stable AI's Stable Diffusion is also helping a lot of people, but on the other hand, SD is causing a lot of problems, such as image copyright violations. To me, his signature shows that he found a way to blame others without reflecting on his own company's problems.

Weird, GPT-4's biggest strength was said to be it's ability to use external tools proficiently unlike GPT-3.5.

And why is a red flag law not the right thing here?

it is real and some of the names have been checked by Reuters, ALtman may have received a call from Microsoft and moved into denial.

This open letter is ridiculous. I think this signature and open letter are the same as "red flags law".

I tried to get my name on the list and failed, because they say they check each and every name on the list before they submit and that would take days . This is strange, I would also believe that some of the people on the list do not want to be on the list anymore after they received a call from their investors.

Sentience is about analyzing things that are happening around you, or perhaps within you, which must be a sort of intelligence, even though it happens unconsciously.

Reply to comment by lightinitup in Let’s Make A List Of Every Good Movie/Show For The AI/Singularity Enthusiast by AnakinRagnarsson66
I can imagine how that feels. As a white man this film is problematic and it offended me because only the white female comes out on top and white men are presented either as evil or as an inept and easily manipulatable. This is how little sense the argument you proposed makes.
Based on your conclusion all movies should only have positive ending and positive characters, with positive conclusions to avoid offending anyone, because all people can identify with is their own race or sex.
Empathy is a universal construct, just because a movie features a protagonist from a different race doesn't mean people can't empathise with that character.

Metaverse hype was too early and felt manufactured by Meta. The techs not there yet although it's super close now. Give it one or two more gens tops and we will know whether or not it has legs. Till now the hardware has been too limiting to know if people will actually go for it.

It sows discord and demonstrates that those in opposition to AI are not to be taken seriously. It's an effective tactic. Make the "enemies" arguments seem juvenile, out of touch, and behind the curve. I am all for legislation that sets reasonable limits on AI usage in public and private until we have a matured ethical framework to implement, but it's too late now. We don't dare fall behind China, Russia, India, the UK, Mexico, or Canada. We are on the train of progress, without brakes, going 100mph and we can't see down the track, for better or for worse.
