"creativity" is only not-possible without sentience if you define creativity in such a way that requires it. If you define creativity as the ability to interpret and recombine information in a novel and never-before-seen way, then ChatGPT can already do that. We can argue about whether or not it's any good at it, but you definitely can't say its incapable of being at least as novel as a college student in its outputs.

Self-recognition again only requires sentience if you define recognition in a way that requires it. The most basic form, "detecting that what is being seen is a representation of the thing which is doing the detecting", is definitely possible through pure mechanical intelligence without requiring a subjective experience. The extension of "because of the realisation that the thing being seen is a representation of the thing which is doing the detecting, realising that new information can be inferred about the thing which is doing the detecting" is, I assume, what you're getting at ("the dot test", "the mirror test", "the mark test"). This is understood to be a test for self-awareness, which is not the same thing as sentience, though it is often seen as a potential indicator for sentience.

I freely admit that in my attempts to form a sort of "mirror test" for ChatGPT, it was not able to correct for the "mark" I had left on it. (Though I will say that the test was somewhat unfair due to the way ChatGPT tokenizes text, that isn't a strong enough excuse to dismiss the result entirely)

actually AI and especially AGI has the potential of helping out poor nations far more than the current world. robotics and access to quality intelligence in remote regions, along with massive advancements in medicine along with huge price reductions will increase their livelyhood and longevity rapidly. I don't know if OpenAI will lead those charges, but open source models are becoming more advanced by the day.

The usual onboarding process I'm familiar with is a combination of reading and listening. Plus, doing a basic project to understand how everything works. Obviously the prerequisite is some general technical knowledge otherwise all the jargon would be a mystery. But if AGI has this and the ability to listen and read, what else would it require? I mean, AGI doesn't go on holidays. It doesn't need to rest. It can learn and ask for information without feeling embarrassed or upset. Having no ego has its benefits. Oh yeah it does help to actually be able to physically manipulate objects because no one is going to open doors for you at work.

Follow the trends closely. find every niche that pops out and jump on it. use AI to the fullest extent. Be aggressively useful in all areas. Thats all you can do.

And yes, we will eventually need UBI, but until then, don't just sit and cry. Its a gold rush for now, but the gold will eventually be shooting out like a volcano until it no longer has meaning, but until then...get your hustle on.

I think envisioning a Utopias are a great way to decide what we want and develop a plan to get there.

Typically I start at the end result I want and work my way backwards on ways to get there. Yours is a pretty good list.

Ideally, you want to make it as broad as possible to appeal to the individual instead of as a society. As the individual is made happy and prosperous, so too does society become.

Yup it was quite eye opening, I've read his stuff since and a lot of what he has to say is way more evidence based than what we get from people like Gates, musk, or even other futurists who just have philosophical theories... Many of which are grounded in irrational emotions and fear.

His more recent interviews on Star Talk with Tyson are also really good and I recommend them.
