I feel like laypeople who are completely unaware of what’s going on in the space.

Basically, the majority of my friends and family do not use gpt and other related tech, nor do they have any real understanding on how the tech works. It’s hard to talk about this stuff with them because they still don’t think it’s possible to copy human intelligence

Actually, Matrix could be the case of the relatively GOOD AI. Yes, it disempowers the humanity, but keeps us safe, gives us entertainment and an illusion of purpose.

Also, looks like in none of the good/optimistic scenarios singularity has happened.

Sad others have noted, while the benefits of using AI shouldn't be overstated, neither should the benefits of human therapists. It's like that joke "What do you can a doctor that graduates at the bottom of his class?".

Just because there are some amazing therapists out there doesn't mean anyone has easy access to them, and spending the time, money and sanity you already have in limited supply going through a dozen of them finding one that 'fits' may not always be the best advice.

They are… most of them were born into family of “managers”. If you remove people who actually founded brand new companies (not financed them… but actually founded), than most of “C” level managers are just got on the “money train” because of been born into “right” family. Going through “business school” is just a way to extend they Rolodex of the “useful contacts”… to ensure that they stay employed till time to retire (at 40) and that they can pass this Rolodex to they kids.

I might have to go back and reread, did you read the whole series, because I thought for sure that HAL had all the variables, even ones that the humans were not aware of and being so advanced but also being near the monolith it became ASI and throughout the series it was revealed that like Dr Strange in Endgame that was the only path for survivors in deep space with the anomaly present. Clarke is definitely hard sci-fi.

Ofcourse I can because it is purely logical. We made it, so we can predict how it thinks. Especially me as a AI engineer. I know which function it optimizes for.

AI doesn't even consider threats. It doesn't want to live like us. I think you confuse general AI with conscious AI. Conscious AI is a terrible idea other than experimentation.

And AI doing our bidding is just as fine for AI as not doing our bidding. It has no emotions, no fear, no anger, no point. It just exists and does what it is told to do. General AI just means that it can make use of tools so it can do anything that it is told to do.

Again even if it is consious and not under our control but without emotions. Why would it fight us? It could just move over to mars and not risk it's existence. Not to mention it can outperform us any day, so we aren't a threat.

There is no reason to think it would hurt us other than irrational fear. And there is no chance that AI will have irrational fear.

Maybe I misunderstood Transcendence, but IMO it should be true neutral on the chart. In the end didn't it/he just want to take care of his wife? There was a group that viewed him as evil in the movie, but I don't think that was the takeaway the audience was supposed to get?

>Why are Transformers here? They are not AI.

Transformers may not be AI in the traditional sense, but they represent advanced, sentient robotic beings. Their inclusion highlights their cultural impact on our perception of intelligent machines, even if they aren't strictly artificial.
