Glad you found comfort in it...just be careful sending GPT your sensitive info. There is no doctor/patient confidentiality when communicating with LLMs and we don't yet know if those convos can or will be subpoenaed/used against you.

Very interesting concept. So if we have, say, a holodeck, we could run it off locally?

You would be better off with a copy of the source training text dataset.

Agreed, HAL should go dead center because he is acting purely in self defense. Maybe even a nudge to the right because aside from that he seems to be helpful and benevolent.

Not a bad compass. But I think AM from "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" needs to be on the far end of the evil/cautionary axis. AM is so much worse than the Terminator, the machines from the Matrix, or even Ultron. Those AIs only sought to kill humanity. AM wants to torture them for eternity.

I have access to GPT4, I’m not making this stuff up. Here are three from poking around, but keep in mind it will pretend to know the answer to anything it is just wrong when you ask it to explain the details. It will not match with actual fact, I.e. what is in Wikipedia.
What is an oblivious tree?
What is the population of Goleh-ye Cheshmeh?
Where was the 65th governor of Delaware born?

Or just go with a workable hack for calculation like the Wolfram plugin.
Does it matter if the model isn't doing it natively if it understands how and when to use the tool? How often do we multiply large numbers unaided?

Absolutely. I've got Wikipedia and Stsckoverflow downloaded locally, just in case. But as soon as I got llama and alpaca up and running locally and started using it to complete real tasks and using it for work during the day, I realised that I could just use this in a situation where the internet is gone. This little 16gb file is all I need. And I could run a smaller model on a small computer for travelling. We've basically got Jarvis already. Openai whisper to talk to it, alpaca to do the thinking and tortoise to respond back with a realistic voice. All locally.

What scale are you talking here? I can see hive replication and industry being built. But that is not what I think of when I think "goo". I don't see some kind of Gaia style super nano hivemind. Surviving at the nano scale requires virtually all your capability as an organic system. I could see seed AI being propagated through an organic system, but it would be dumb, like an egg floating around, and wouldn't be able to hatch until certain criteria is met.

Thanks OP. Its sad to say that the same thing has happened to my family. Brother passed on and now we're disintegrated. If you could let me know if there is any possibility of reuniting my family after such a tragedy. If not, then how does one manage? Cheers.

How does alpaca 7b perform compared with chatgpt? I don't have any experience with it. I do have a raspberry pi 8g with 1tb storage for a bitcoin node, it would be awesome if I could run in on there locally. It sounds like the larger parameter models require way too much processing power?
