I mean we could build it now, more or less... Wikipedia is only couple of hundred gigs of data.

But I don't understand your point ? Humans don't do instant multiplication. At best, we have some mental tricks that are certainly algorithms too. Or we choose wisely to allocate more effort doing long multiplication if needed.

This technique is almost identical to the technique you can find in the book "What's right with you", a modern solution-focused psychology.

I would not classify the Borg as Ai. They are cyborgs with a hive mind facilitated through technology.

But even with $60/h, this might already be profitable if you replace a job that has a higher hourly wage. Lawyers, e.g. At 14.4/h, you beat minimum wage. For toying around, yeah, that's a bit expensive.

An interesting take from The Animatrix: Second Renaissance; At one point the collective AI participates in industry, separate from human intervention and control. So they're running their own mega corporation with products and corporate stock.
An AI with the power of it's own corporation that can independently participate in our economy would eventually have the power to scale itself and manufacture any physical presence it wants; and we'd willingly help do it for them for a payday.
Then the world is theirs, essentially. AI, I imagine, would be able to keep plans for our eventual domination a secret better than any human organization so preparations could be underway for years before we realize there's a threat.

It doesn't really want anything at all, which in a way is ideal for a therapy situation. You don't have to worry about what its motivations are.

Using ChatGPT instead of a therapist has a lot of downsides, but it does remove a lot of things you have to worry about with a real person.

I'm also thinking that we're getting close to the Young Lady's Illustrated Primer from The Diamond Age.

Poor reasoning as in general understanding or specific for maths and math-using natural sciences?

Why waste money? It could just set up a cult to protect itself, take out all governments, or at least all that have nukes, and be golden.

I am going to push back even more. I think we can agree that the movie used objectification consciously. Do you think the movie was presenting objectification as something good?

How is transcendence a depiction of an evil ai? Dude literally tries to clean up the Earth and cures diseases.

It has to gain access to the physical world. There are three different ways, I can think of.
- It helps humans to develop robots, which it can control.
- Human helper. It can pay them or it builds something like a religious cult.
- It builds brain implants, which people use to advance their mental capacities, but it turns out, they can be controlled by the AI.

Yeah, it’s called Elevenlabs, a bit cheaper than that for the first tier and it’s really fantastic, I tested it out by recording some friends have natural conversations speaking directly into their microphones on discord (w/ consent!)
One thing is you have to turn down the stability parameter very low from the default or else the intonation is very stiff and it sounds robotic, bring it down to 20% and generate a few times but when it gets the likeness right it’s perfect. To the point where even the person it was emulating found it convincing
I’m curious how it handles the reading, since it’s obviously context aware to some extent. I think we as humans are very keen to picking out “poor acting” and unnatural vocal delivery. I think when that gets improved, we’ll have completely natural language conversations with the ai.
