Well there's no way it was named McKamey, right? So now that we ruled that one out, let's take 2 more guesses. Ummm.. Death Valley? Disease Ridge? Deadhorse? This is fun, can I take some more guesses?

That's crazy, you and your friends are much braver than I am. I woulda been fine just looking from a distance. I've learned to listen to those instinctive warnings over the years after making lots of stupid mistakes ignoring them. Glad you guys made it out safely.

What would you have named the town if it were up to you?

Have you tried written or pictographic communication? She should be able to understand drawings/pictures. Maybe take "Laney" to the hospital, have them scan her (claim brain damage or something because she had a fall). They may notice physiological differences from a human child. Or even better, they may be able to cure her (though it's unlikely) and you can trade the healthy creature back for your daughter. Figure out some sort of trade, find something that would be valuable to them. Try different things; gold, precious stones, jewelry, enchanted objects, etc. Trading would likely be a lot smarter than trying to threaten them, they don't care about the child they left. Best of luck to you, please update us as soon as you can.

Something that struck me after reading,

There are a lot of disappearances in which the hikers dont come back from this area, but yet your "daughter" was found. It seems shes special if she was taken and replaced instead of just missing forever. Maybe the replacement child is much like someone in the comment mentioned, shes a "replacement" of sorts? Maybe to test the ability of said species to learn, grow and adapt into the human race and eventually return to "home" and share.

Also, odd that when she was first found she wasnt trying to escape just enjoying the little burrow. But when you put her back she wanted out, Im not sure that youll find your daughter or ever get a swap back but seems like wherever your daughter is now, is not a place anyone would want to be

Sorry for the late reply — I’m currently recovering in the hospital. Fair points, but I wasn’t lying. I mean… I learned all of that from town gossip on a Facebook page, so maybe it wasn’t the most reliable source of information. Ron really wanted to know why Billy would bring him back. The truth is that he’s just a psycho. He didn’t need much of a reason. And he’ll certainly rot in prison for savagely attacking me, even if I omit the supernatural elements from my story.

I wouldn’t trust your friend, because what he told you he saw on Facebook can’t be true! If Billy was already tried for killing you and served time, he can’t be later convicted again of a higher charge for the same killing, that would be double jeopardy. He also can’t be convicted of murder before even being arrested—he’d need to be arrested first, then tried and convicted, but he can’t be tried twice for the same killing regardless, it doesn’t matter how much new evidence came to light.

Your friend is lying to you about Billy for some reason, so watch out!
