Holy crap. What a twist, and how devastating to think that this kind of thing, and worse happens in our world. There is no supernatural evil that could ever compare to the black hearts of child traffickers. I thought this was just another clichè ghost story, but that ending really smacks you in the face. Excellent writing OP, and hopefully therapy can help you find some peace.

Does anyone else want to come with me to spend a relaxing weekend in Crater Lake? We'll go sightseeing, learn about the area's history, throw some depth charges in the water near the Old Man etc. Sounds fun doesn't it!?

I was told the lake was considered sacred by the Klamath and other local tribes. I have been there once and it definitely feels otherworldly there.

A close friend was camping at Crater Lake 15 years ago or so and her boyfriend, who practiced some dubious left handed path spiritual work, became violent was killed by the cops. According to my friend, he had been fighting possession at the time.

What kind of stuff has happened on Wizard Island? Thank you in advance!!

That did not go the way I thought it would. I thought it would just be the flood itself being the big bad evil guy. I liked this. Thanks for the idea. Might use some bits of it in my next DnD campaign (currently playing through a book but I am gathering ideas for the next one, which might be a year or more out. Some people take 5 years to get through the campaign we're currently playing!).
