Sounds like they went spontaneously, and you can’t really do New Haven like that, it’s not a city where you can just wander and see what’s around, which is made obvious by OPs post

Just sad to see people getting so offended but a truthful post from an outsider.

It’s a public forum, am I not free to comment as much or as little as I want?

I can ask why people are so offended by someone making a truthful statement about New Haven just being SO-SO?

everyone always gets upset here when people talk about CT being “boring” I mean our side of a few things it is kinda boring…

I saw a tweet where it went something like “Yale students claim they live in New Haven but won’t go past the Popeyes on Whalley ave” and it’s true

Seems like they randomly stopped by spontaneously. And that’s just it, New Haven isn’t great for that. You need to pre plan, can’t just roam around and find cool stuff like other cities. Everything you’re suggest is cool to see for a bit, but not engaging for a tourist.

You’re suggesting to look at a quad and buildings, doesn’t that sound kinda said compared to what other cities have?

I’ve been going to new haven for years, and went to college there, it’s a good city, but not great for tourists

Lmaoo god bless you, that Popeyes bathroom has at least two STD’s at all times, it’s never cleaned and crazy people literally smear shit on the walls (I have seen this personally). Next time you come this way, put Old Campus in your GPS and go from there. Stay away from Whaley, it’s getting cleaned up slowly but is still crime infested and nasty

It is unfair. "Sure, the museums are nice, but Paris has the Louvre, so why bother."

Sounds like New Haven was convenient given their itinerary but they didn't take advantage of it and were underwhelmed by an Apple Store.

Why are you so invested in posting multiple times in a sub about New Haven arguing with people who ostensibly like New Haven about how underwhelmed you are with New Haven?

It’s not unfair, it’s truth. I see people in this sub get so upset when people talk down about CT. It’s a fine place to live and raise a family, but not great for tourists, and not as exciting for people post college to get jobs/have a fun young adult life.

I think some people need to realize that, and this post from an outsider was spot on.

It’s not a great city to just walk and find something. You need to pre plan for an event or something.

New to CT, was pretty underwhelmed by my initial impression of New Haven but had an “Ivy League City” dream in my head. Have found a lot of cool stuff after some searching.

Calling out that there was a Popeye’s seem a bit iffy 👀

If they drove an hour to see Yale and New Haven they could have easily walked another 100yds to wall and york st, walked down it to see the libraries, law building, beineke, a couple secret societies tombs, a lively quad, then continued on to the green and onto crown street. I have no sympathy.

All things that are fine for people living here, but not the best for a tourist like OP is. you said it best, not big enough to wander and find something cool. That’s why it’s just an OK city for tourists. New Haven can be done in less than a day then move on to NYC or Boston

Yes and that’s why I’m saying, it’s not great for tourists. OP isn’t wrong, it’s not very exciting. Crazy that people in this sun get offended when people dont like/hate on our state. It’s a great place to live, but can’t deny it’s one of the less exciting states…

It's a town of 150k, of course it does not have the cultural amenities of NYC or Boston, and it's not loaded with old money like Newport. You don't go to what is essentially a small college town and expect the world.

I mean compared to other cities it’s just OK, Peabody? NYC has way better alternatives.

Art (if they are into that) MOMA is way better

The list can go on - I took my friends from out of state, and we did a New Haven tour in half a day. Where is we did 2 days in NYC (which still wasn’t enough) 2 in Boston and Philly, and a day trip to Newport for the beaches and mansion tour - new haven’t doesn’t have what those cities offer, and it’s obvious, it’s not a tourist city or a too attraction

I went to college in New Haven for 4 years, and still come down for restaurants/bars mostly now.

But it’s just great when compared to what other states have to offer

CT is the bridge between NYC and Boston is where you stop and try the great pizza

Disagree hes entirely wrong. it's a great city for a tourist (who can utilize Google maps or just has a cursory understanding of how to Google things). If you go to a city and only find a Lululemon it's probably a you problem.
