LCI should be dismantled. It’s a total waste of tax dollars. If tenants really want to make change, the best way is go to your bank and open an escrow account. Dump your rent money there until your slumlord fixes the problem. Rinse and repeat. If they don’t fix it to a satisfactory standard, keep it in the escrow account. If they don’t fix the problem by the time you move out, that’s free rent baby!

LCI-Housing is a joke. My 14 month interaction with them resulted in no significant changes in the property, an inspector who clearly did not know what her job was or how to do it, and a city government (Elicker included) who didn't do shit despite emails, texts and phone calls. Voting his ass out of office this year is my top priority. It seems the director is as oblivious as she is confrontational to the reporter about just how lame her division is.

Also, every landlord knows to ignore the USPS letters sent by LCI. The fact they send them instead of using the judicial Marshalls is proof positive that they don't give a rats ass about tenants in this city and just feign ignorance when their investigations die.

The only bright spot in this entire debacle was the actual neighborhood specialist. That inspector documented and followed up despite the city itself throwing roadblocks in her way. If it weren't for her there would be no way I would continue to live in New Haven.

LCI comes across as the kind of organization that should have gone extinct many moons ago.

Bad landlords are a problem, but a taxpayer-funded agency with the sole mission to keep landlords in check that fails to keep bad landlords on check is a bigger problem.

And an agency that doesn’t even bother to recognize when they are failing, ask how they can improve, and then take the necessary steps to improve is an even bigger problem.

“This is our process.” That’s it? The internet has been available for decades and nearly every other communication we receive now comes via email, and their response is “well, this is just our process?” And then just blame the reporters for exposing their incompetence?

A competent organization doesn’t put its processes above its mission but instead questions and updates those processes as times change and new technologies become available. Are they too busy running on autopilot to think about how to properly do things?

we are lucky that tenants rights activist and tenants have been organized to push this issue And I think city hall has heart in right place but needs more resources from the State and more enforcement Higher fines from state will help. housing for people, not for profit.
