I get how you’re feeling but please don’t feel any shame around it. I just went back to school at 27 and while I didn’t go to Yale, I always went to Sterling library to study. There’s a big mix of people in there, but it’s easy to find a quiet little spot to study or read.

If you just get her a apartment like she wants you might as well plan on her going right back to her old ways and having to start all over again. Let her goto a sober house and work at getting into a apartment so she appreciates it and doesn’t fall as soon as she gets out

Thank you, New Haveners!

Based on the input here:

I'm switching it up for Pepes/Sallys. I only chose Modern because it was a little closer and opinions are so split.

I'm adding Beinecke - which looks incredible

Trying to find a way to fit in BAR and/or Cafe Nine.

Going with Union League simply to move past the abundance of choice and for the fireplace (something my wife loves). We'll be back in warmer weather for ZINC and Olea, I have a feeling.

And finally going with Pantry at opening (8am), before we head back.

Really excited and appreciate all the great feedback!

Edit: New Haveners

I doubt that any are advertised by landlords for short term as you suggest. Some students will sublet for the summer but more often than not it is when they are leaving in June and the leases mostly run August 1 to July 31 so the next lease is for 15 months. Even if available, I don't think you will find anything at that price point.

I went to Gateway about 15 years ago and had the same feelings. I loved Koffee, and now I like Fussy Coffee, Gather East, and Bloom. And the library. Keep going. 15 years later and 6 more years of school and I’ve made it to the other side, the “professional side.” I couldn’t have done it without taking Gateway seriously. It was a great school.

People from all walks of life go to Yale. I went to Southern and never felt out of place in downtown New Haven. I wish I had done my first two years at a Community College. You're not encroaching on anyone's space. If you don't need to scan a card to get into a place you can go there.

It's been a while, I have no idea about places in the area anymore. Sorry.

The library, Haven Kitchen on Temple St across from the movies, the deli on Orange St across from Elm City Games
