I love both but if I had to pick one for a rewatch it will always be Phantom. Watching it for the first time was a revelation. It picks me up, whirls me around in that messed up world, and spits me out feeling so sad in the tragic finale. Plus you're so right about Beef.. underrated king.

Seeing Phantom in a packed midnight showing would probably make me weep if I'm being honest, something about it.

-People never reading the article and jumping to insane conclusions based on the title alone (big problem on all subreddits)

-Getting offended by diversity

-"Still holds up!" after <10 years

-Super hyperbolic opinions (it's either a masterclass hidden indie gem or its the worst thing ever)

Besides marketability, film is a visual medium, and you want to be looking at the actor, not at the bottom of the screen.

Consider Better Call Saul, and >!Nacho's death scene. Logically, all the characters there should be speaking Spanish, but you want to focus on the rage on Nacho's face as he curses Hector. Plus, not all the actors in the scene speak great Spanish, so better to keep it in English.!<

Thank you so much that makes so much more sense now. It seems Georgina is slightly better at resisting the sunken place or her operation wasn’t as “fool proof” as Logan’s or Walter’s who need a trigger to release themselves. What a fucked up amazing movie!!

Reminds me of when the third Matrix movie came out and I saw a Siskel and Ebert segment about new movies releasing that week. I don't recall who it was, but one of them clearly didn't like it. There was a comment about it being ridiculous for the fate of Zion to come down to a bunch of guys shooting gun at robots. That point immediately killed the credibility of the review for me. Apparently the whole film sucked because the rebels hiding underground from an extreme chance of genocide couldn't scrounge up lasers or nukes or something? It was already kind of wild that they managed to build hover ships and mech suits with whatever they scavenged, but whatever.

whether you like a film or not is 100% subjective.

but filmmaking is just as much a CRAFT as it is an ART. Craftsmanship can be somewhat objective. and that's where critics and other filmmakers/artists might have a leg up.

i also think quality of storytelling can be somewhat objective but thats much grayer.

it's an interesting subject.
