I've watched The Big Short once and that was enough for me.

I've watched Margin Call several times and will watch it again.

Other than the subject matter, I don't think they have much in common. Margin Call is a compressed intense story about a bunch of people trying to navigate something much bigger than them, it's not just about finances. The Big Short to me, seemed to be just about finances. Also, there are some people in it.

Any of these directors could adapt to modern times if they wanted to. I think it's storytelling is just more natural when you don't have to explain away why no one isn't just texting each other the whole movie.

I just finished it and enjoyed it a lot. They definitely spiced up the story with a lot of fictionalized drama, but it was entertaining. My primary gripe was how fast development was portrayed (let me go ahead and whip up a working demo of this game on experimental hardware in about 15 seconds, no problem) and the effortless international travel, but that's understandable to keep the story moving.

I would also recommend overriding the AppleTV+ UI and letting the credits run for a bit. There are some neat home movies from the real Henk Rogers from his trip to Moscow.

Cell reception will notoriously be spotty on the ocean. Also they say that the shark leads them to deeper waters and more away from land. So cell reception can become more restricted. Or Shaw can merely forbid them from getting phones onto the boat.

Dnd has been an ever growing franchise, since before COVID, it's been around for the last 50 years. There's been plenty of themed movies and animations on the subject, toys, dice, terrain, you name it, it's been cash grabbed at.

But the dungeons and dragons movie is getting race reviews and looks amazing. I'm going to see it tonight and as a DND player and DM I'm looking forward to it.

I'm only familiar with that video you linked by Gaming Historian, so I'm curious about this movie. But I am "worried" about them playing up the drama, which it just doesn't need. Like you said, the story itself is wonderful - smart, inventive, if somewhat naive, developer surpressed by the horrible system of SovietRussia, contrasted with western creative ways to make money.

Paul Bettany is incredible in Margin Call. The scene on the roof where he casually contemplates jumping is the best scene in a movie packed with great scenes.

Trying to adapt something with so much lore and action and everything that ran for so long would take a series of movies with a massive budget and if they just made one movie it would be impossible to fit the full story into it, and even if you just adapted one saga like Freiza, Androids/Cell or Buu it would make die hard fans mad that it wasent in order or things were skipped and changed. The Anime being so long at over 250 episodes just for Z gave the story everything it needed that your standard hollywood movie just cant do, and thats why evolution turned out like it did.

When you consider Jaws, Shaw was adamant he would be the one to catch the shark. He knew the dangers. It was more a vendetta for him.

That's why the flashback was there. He was hunting the shark on Amity in retaliation for the death of his navy buddies.

So even if his boat was equipped with all the modern communication devices and come to think of it Shaw would not do. His character is more a salt of the earth kind), he would not ask for help. That's why when Brody called for the coastguard, he smashed the radio. He has to be the one to kill the beast.
