I agree that it was unfairly judged. Some very cool old school stunts in Cutthroat Island, and it had been said by some that Geena just wasn't cut out to be an action hero. Those people are proven galactically stupid and wrong by her very next movie. After CI, Her then husband Renny Harlin's career as a successful big budget director was over, and Geena suffered too as her offers got smaller. It is a shame, because Long Kiss Goodnight was such a blast.

Why must things become a franchise now though? Why can't find just stand alone? If you want deeper, longer, more developed stories then films aren't your medium, tv shows are.

All of them? I get dumping on the MCU is all the rage right now but Shang Chi, No Way Home, Wakanda Forever and even Dr Strange 2 were all positively received films. This "everything since endgame sucks" narrative is getting out of hand.

There's not some huge difference in levels of talent. The pipe lines to stardom might have a few more hands on them now though.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is a great actor. He's way less ridiculous than any of the other action stars from that era and is also pretty funny.

Sea Beast on Netflix is not bad.
