Nah, it peaked with Supremacy.

You could consider Supremacy and Ultimatum to be co-depedenant, but ultimately from Ultimatum onwards, they do the same thing.

"Oh actually, THIS GUY was the one who was there from the very beginning and is the real mastermind behind Treadstone."

"Wait, actually, there's ANOTHER secret about how you become Jason Bourne at the very beginning."

I stopped caring the moment I noticed the pattern.

Tom Cruise just recently had a blow up at some of the crew members working on I believe the new Mission Impossible (?). Basically they weren't following Covid protocols and he screamed at them. I can't do the digging at the moment for the audio but he essentially says that the movie industry is counting on them and how mistakes like this could shut down production and screw with everything.

Casey Affleck had always been known as a supporting actor till then. Even in (imo) his best performance before this film, in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, he was still nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars, even though he was arguably the protagonist of that film.

But Manchester by the Sea had him front and center with nowhere to hide, and he proved himself as an incredible talent on his own merits.

Off the top of my head... Scream 6

It was green lit, writen, shot, and released within a year of thr previous movie. It's not a masterpiece but its still very entertaining and a solid slasher film. Friday the 13th and Saw use to release a new movie every year and they got bland fast. This one still felt like it was still trying to give audiences the same level of quality

The "confrontation" between Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck near the end of this movie, fuck me. Williams is a 10/10 in that scene, Casey goes to another plane. Their pain hits you like a truck.

For me personally it was the most gripping and emotional performance I've seen in my lifetime. Happy it got the recognition it deserves at the Oscars

Nobody knows truly. There WAS a girl Rooney Maras character was based on, and his blog posts were verbatim in the film but with her name changed. You can dig them up online. And then the time line of the actual shit happening in the company is fact you can look up. But the interpersonal shit is summized well by Rashida Jones at the end. And we will never know.

He absolutely nails depression and anxiety.

The scene where he runs into Michelle Williams under the bridge is absolutely heartbreaking.

To convey that he can say hi and nice to meet you and pops out an excuse as why he’s been absent immediately.

The feeling of thinking you have a mask in place only to be torn off by the person you least want it to be torn off by. And the realization that you don’t have your shit together and everyone knows it.

That you want desperately to be better. But can not find a foothold and the idea of a coffee with your ex wife is enough to make you physically unable to speak. Then immediately go into a bar and get in a fight because you don’t know how to process your grief or guilt.

It’s a master class in acting by everyone in that movie.
