While the sports gambling isn’t the real point of the film it should definitely not be ignored with how gambling has been seeping into mainstream sports media. It has only gotten easier to be a degenerate gambler since the year the movie has taken place.

One of the most grimy & disgusting movies I've ever seen. Not in a violent/gory way, just the overall atmosphere and the shit the main character does to get out of certain situations. Fucking gross. I love this movie and I can't recommend it enough

The Artist win wasn't necessarily unexpected...as it gained momentum heading into the awards season iirc. But it has some what faded out of public consciousness quite quickly. More so than its fellow nominees (Hugo, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, Tree of Life, War Horse, Extremely Loud....).

Though I don't think the field was particularly strong that year, out of all them, I only rewatch Moneyball.

I loved her in Knives Out and she played her returning Halloween character with such defiance and strength.

Though in saying that, I was very surprised on her win here, as I think the other performances was a bit more..how do I say..more substantial?

But like what other ppl say, a deserved lifetime award if you frame it as such.

Idk I feel like there’s a disconnect between this comment and your first one. What movies are you watching where you are not “ready to be thrust into the scene along with the characters and assume their circumstances as their own”? What exactly are these movies that you’re able to “taste” without “allowing it to land on your tongue”?

Yea, I also kinda got sick of Anderson's aesthetic. But then I went and watched Grand Budapest Hotel and it was pretty darn good.

So... you know. I keep thinking it's twee and I should age out of liking his movies. I don't actively seek out his films anymore. But every time I watch one so far, they just don't end up being bad.

He's just doing the Tim Burton thing. Got a style and sticking to it.

i wouldn't say that's the case..

there are plenty of movies that you just watch to be told a thought provoking story or to be wowed with excellent visuals

i'm not watching Fast and the Furious for the plot let me tell you that

or like, The unbearable weight of massive talent", i certainly didn't feel like "i" am in the scene with the characters

or things like FRIENDS where i'm clearly not invited

I thought it was good, but there were things just didn't jive with me.

but I felt the detective had to do several things that to me seems out of character for the story to continue, mostly that the detective would pursue this individual alone, especially after what he in the camp the first time...

even "back in the day" in the US the detective would not have been alone. I believe there were a few other instances like that...

Uncut Gems reminded me so much of Bad Lieutenant, and I had the same panicky feeling of anxiety watching both films.
