It's not a 1:1 remake but I definitely remember them having similarities. It's like Star Wars and Hidden Fortress, the inspiration is obvious but it's not a remake.

I’ve fallen asleep to The Gentlemen twice.

Lou Diamond Phillips- if you ignore the handful of bit parts where his characters don't even have names, his first two movies are La Bamba and Stand and Deliver. Oh, and his third movie is Young Guns. Pretty hot start to a career.

Most of animated movies from asterix are "remakes" from the comics. But live action films of Asterix are inspired by comics (and animated movies), they are not remake. Especially Mission Cleopatra which add a lot of new stuff and new ideas. There are really good directing ideas that makes it an unforgetable classic, at least in France.

You’re not wrong, Mandalorian doesn’t really hide its Lone Wolf and Cub influence.

Critics didn't like the film. They said it was gimmicky.

I have always disliked all live-action versions of my childhood animated favourites. That's why I steered clear of all the Asterix films. I don't even get the concept of a live-action remake. I mean: why on Earth would you do that?

It was awesome! Basically Columbo with a dog. It was the only day in the week I was allowed to stay up late as a kid

Yes, numerous times. Love the Buffyverse. Saying it was never serious is removing some of the best moments of the show, ones still critically lauded for how they tackled serious issues.
The Body is a prime example of a serious episode. There were quite a few others. It wasn't all campy fun.

I'm pretty sure you're looking for The New Legend of Shaolin starring Jet Li from 1994, which pays hommage to Lone Wolf And Cub. Minor spoiler: The scene you mentioned plays out with his son, that he's considering to kill, lol. I adore that movie to this day, transports me right back to my childhood!

Not sure if it's the same movie but I remember a HK movie from when I was a kid with a similar scene. If it's the same movie I remember the baby getting a choice between a rocking horse toy and a sword? Vaguely recall a firey backdrop too. Swordsman had come home to find his wife slain and home on fire with only the baby/kid who then picked the sword. I have some more vague memories of that movie if it happens to be the same one?
edit: kinkinoa posted the one I was thinking of I think.
