Tarantino said Reservoir Dogs was inspired by The Killing (1956)

Most people who say Dogs ripped off City on Fire never watched City on Fire.

Eh, you might still find it funny. I might have if I wasn't so perplexed the entire time.

I refuse to watch it as an adult as I’m sure I won’t love it nearly as much.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie vs Buffy the Vampire Slayer series is the best example I can think of regarding the topic of popcorn flicks (or series). You can be fun and even dumb as the series shows without being a complete dumpster fire like the movie is.

I never got the appeal for this film. But I guess there weren't any other film like this with a woman lead during this time. I personally have never liked Whedon's writing and structure but he did get screwed over by a director that went in a different route by turning this film into a comedy. There's just so much to unpack with this film for me as I know many people I grew up with liked this film. It's a great concept for the time, it was just executed horribly.

I actually agree.
In the sense that I think it's silly to think those very few times a foreign film wins it were the only times a movie made overseas was supposedly better that specific year. Not every great foreign film will get an American theatrical run or get noticed enough to be championed by critics come award season.

Shirley Bennett : [about Nicholas Cage] Maybe he's just good in good movies and then acts crazy in crap to make drug money.
Abed Nadir : But is he good, or is he bad? Every actor is something. Robert Downey Jr., good, Jim Belushi, bad. Van Damme, the good kind of bad, Johnny Depp, the bad kind of good. There's a spectrum, and Cage is on it.

Did you peep the Ben Affleck appearance?

I think he's excellent. Went to the beat of his own drum. Was wildly successful. His films are rewatchable even if not great. So he's not Leo, or Deniro, or Pacino.....well who is? I can't really think of another actor like him and that matters.

You should definitely check out the other nominees. I’ve seen all of them except for Elvis and really liked them all.

He's definitely a terrific performer, makes interesting choices, and commits to those choices entirely. But is he a good actor? I can't say.

The film is weak.
Turning Albert into the count's son was bullshit. It's not because Albert is his biological son that Edmond will necessarily love him. In the brothers Karamazov, Fyodor was the father of 3 children and did not love them.
Mercedes is not the most beautiful woman in the world for Edmond to fight for her as Menelaus did for Helen when she ran away with Prince Paris. He traveling like Odysseus, he would meet other women as Odysseus did, with Circe and Calypso, but without the desire to return to his old relationship.
When Prince Hamlet felt betrayed by Ophelia, he was extremely aggressive towards her. so much so that he hurled insults at her. Kind of naive and simple-minded to think that silly words and an alliance would undo all of Edmond's anger.
The vibes were poorly executed and felt amateurish. It was so obvious that they were a trap that no one would fall for them.
Better if Edmond sought to challenge Fernand to a duel as did Paris and Menelaus.
Not even Villefort would confess to a crime in such an obvious trap.
The 1979 French miniseries is better.

It's all subjective, so you do you.

I unfortunately decided to watch it at 28 and was more perplexed by...whatever the actor was going for. I thought the movie was going to be a little more serious and...that was not what I got with that guy.

They basically completely took it away from Whedon. He has said he cried though most of the premier.
