I wouldn’t go so far as to say “no clue,” but I do wonder if he has a certain workman-like approach to the craft, where he’s comfortable cranking out a story that works well enough and just calling it a day, as opposed to taking the time to live with a script and question not only if it is literally coherent, but if it’s as strong as it can be.
This enables him to crank out lots of work, but some of it is just content.

Wow, I didn't know there was an irish version of "La guerre des boutons" ! Nice to know. In France the 1962 version is well known by older people, but not so much from young french generations

I agree but it's kinda funny that he plays a guy whose wife has a mental breakdown and he is troubled by her death, being the main plot point in two movies, both of which came out in 2010.

Me too. I thought he fit really well as an anchor in Nolan’s world.

I did also have the VHS tapes back in the day but replaced them with dvd. I was just watching the cut scenes from part 2 where Michael is giving his blessings for marriage to good couples who come to see him but his sister he refuses as he can see her partner is crooked. Shows Michael is fair and a balanced thinker, these cut scenes really flesh out his character and gives a better context to some scenes in the movie

To me the movie indulges in the perspective of death, which is a combination of serenity, curiosity, intrigue and finally strong emotions. While death's perspective changes, his entire personality does not which makes the slow pacing consistent to me. Could it have been made better? Yes, but I enjoyed it.

One of my favorite films. I enjoyed the pace of the film. Nothing was rushed and it let me get into Anthony Hopkins mind and feel his sense of impending death. What his life's work was actually worth when all is said and done, and how that weighs out against his relationship with family. The evolution of everyone trying to figure out what was going on as the story unfolds around them. It seems like too many movies have to have chaos and carnage and it's nice to see one take the time to tell a story worth telling, and do so in a thoughtful and deliberate way.

Don’t need to be a ‘blockbuster’ per say but it would probably turn into one with those two.

I'm sorry but I hate leonardo dicaprio. As a person and actor. I hope killers of the flower moon fails and Martin Scorcese works with other actors.
