1 and 2 are one long movie. It's the story of Michael Corleone trading his soul for power. He has his reasons-- very compelling ones. But nonetheless by the end of part 2, he has gone from tragic hero and prodigal son, to antihero, and finally to villain. To make that clear, you need part 2.
It's closer to Shakespeare or Greek Tragedy than the usual gangster flick.

Ah yes, because you have a tiny attention-span, this universally-treasured movie must actually suck. You're a genius.

It's one of my favorite books, I adapted one of the stories into a short film haha.

It’s not usual to work with same directors more than once anyway (outside of franchises) so I don’t think it’s remarkable it’s just three directors he has repeated. Most actors have just a couple of repeats.

Okay good. I thought maybe I had horrible taste and didn’t know it. Thanks for the validation.

Absolutely nothing. More people just need to be aware of it.
Amazing cast, story and director of course. Shout out to Stone for helping to architect it.

He stood out to me in The Princess Bride too. When I watched it with my kids for the first time I was surprised how ancillary his character was and how little screen time he had. I had a weird little asexual straight crush, in retrospect. The old Dobie gillis series too.

Not where I grew up but we didn't get cable until 1990.

The Wizard was basically Rain man (1988) with kids. Just compare the two movies. They are remarkably similar in some ways and deal with similar themes.

Don't think he would do blockbusters again.

Then he was in Titanic, and we thought the same thing again, except he was a talented artist.
