Reply to Fantasy Movie Battle 3/1 - Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) vs The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Mental_Chemistry3890
Narnia no question.
The Hobbits combined into a 3-4 hour movie is alright, but I’m never watching them individually again.

Well you're in luck. Dicaprio is in PTA's next movie, along with Joaquin Phoneix, Regina Hall and Viggo Mortensen

Huge nostalgia. I saw this movie in theaters when I was 7. I remember seeing Mario 3 for the first time and getting so hyped. “California” became this mystical place that I hoped to visit some day. I’ve lived in CA for 12 years now and did a cross-country trip when I moved out here. I definitely thought of the movie and how it might have helped nudge me.

Paul W. S. Anderson and the rest of the crew to actually get Event Horizon to fruition.

This is my most watched movie of all time probably lol, just ahead of the first Ninja Turtles. I was a die-hard Nintendo kid, and this was one of the few movies I owned on VHS.

The beginning of The Human Centipede had real wooden acting. Then 30 minutes in, it started rolling quickly.

I feel exactly the same. I watched The Godfather as the “Saga” cut on VHS tapes for the first time when I was around age 13. Not only is it amazing cinema, but I also feel like part 1 especially is a comfort movie. I could just watch them over and over.

It wasn’t a priest it was Bo the daughter. It’s hinted at when Mel is telling her the story of how she was born. “You didn’t cry you were an angel” he meant angel metaphorically but unbeknownst to him she really was. Hence; the water was blessed.

Seems a lot of people hating the ending but I thought the movie was great one of my all time favorites. Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix were both awesome in it and I loved how on the surface it was aliens but there’s a metaphor under it for faith. Loved it

Pretty much most of the Norse movies.

I enjoyed a Christmas Carol because under the grimdark mess it had some good ideas that I haven't seen explored in any other adaptation. However there seems to be none of that here.

I saw it as something like a fashion show, it wasn't functional, but there were some good ideas there that set it apart from the yearly retread of the subject matter. I particularly liked Ali Baba, and the idea of making Tiny Tim into a little person. I don't see any signs of that originality in this new movie though.

So....not as good as you hoped then?
TheUsualQuestions t1_jdysdyt wrote
I normally believe in respecting a person’s opinion on films and stories but Steven Knight’s butchering of A Christmas Carol was so insufferably sadistic, poorly written, and oozed so much unearned arrogance that I gotta say you should’ve seen this coming and the fact that he’s being given the chance to essentially rape another one of Dickens’s works is an absolute disgrace.

Amazing movies. If you haven’t seen it, I HIGHLY recommend you watch The Offer on paramount plus, which is literally about what it took to get the first movie made. Great series.
