Reply to Knock at the Cabin Door questions - spoilers by netrate
The way I understood it, their deaths were foretold. They were destined to die - they saw it in their visions and believed it. They didn’t have a choice but to die.
Their deaths were not the reason for the disasters, the family’s failure to choose was the reason for the disasters.
The only way to save them and the rest of the world was for the family to make their choice.
What I found inconsistent was that we were told the family had to choose together, but in the end it was more like one of them made a sacrifice against the will of the others.

Neither the book nor the movie is historically accurate at all.
Both the book and movie are so misleading, so offensive, and so counterproductive to Holocaust education, the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum actively discourages people from reading or watching them.

WRT Superman, Marty, and Doc. Time Travel is a bitch.
- Multiverse theory in which they don't actually prevent it, just move to a timeline where it was already prevented. Those people still die in your original universe (and an infinite number of others), you just don't see it because you've moved to one of the infinite numbers where they don't.
- Grandfather paradox. You can't go back in time to kill your grandfather as a kid, because then you would cease to exist, and thus, be unable to kill your grandfather, which means he survives to go have your parent, who has you, who goes back in time to kill grandpa, who doesn't have your parent, who doesn't have you, so there's no one to go back to kill grandpa. Basically, something will happen to either prevent you from stopping it, or find a workaround to have it still happen (even if slightly different).
- Butterfly effect. We don't know how changing something like that would affect the rest of the timeline.

Because people don't like the genocide of their family and friends exploited for cheap thrills in comic book level movies.

Barry is a great fucking show, just the right balance of humor but it’s serious when it’s supposed to be. Kind of like Breaking bad

Which tbh even that falls apart unless priests are just like, blessing every body of water willy nilly.

The water wasn't holy unless you subscribe to the idea that priests bless every glass of water that they pour.

I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised. The first 30 mins 'getting the party together' and backstories could use some snugging up, but as soon as things get rolling, it's darned good. Wait until the Red Wizards come into their own. There are actually a few scenes that are sufficiently intense that you'll jump. My wife actually screamed out loud once. LOL.

Maybe 45 seconds of dialog spread across three segments. They're not in any human language, do I would imagine they'll do translations to most of the widely spoken languages.

Just grin and bear the first 20-30 minutes. If you every played D&D, you'll see what's going on (backstory building, getting the party together, etc.) but it definitely could have been tightened up a bit.

Umm.. not really. Definitely not a slapstick comedy. Lots of lighthearted banter and some outright funny moments, but not Monty Python.
There were even a few actual heartfelt scenes, relationship between father and daughter, forbidden romance and the consequences of racism, love and loss.
It's an action flick with some comedic and dramatic moments.

Fortunately for me, I didn't watch the trailer; my daughter wanted to see it, and anything we can do to get her away from the house we will jump on. 'You want to go see a movie with Mommy and I? Getting tickets now!'
