zaktly the case. Just enough cliches and in-jokes to appeal to players, and enough of a straight up action/adventure/fantasy flick for a wider audience.

It's much better than most D&D movies, really, all of them.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was a joke about the 10 Commandments originally being 15 that predates the movie. George Carlin did some jokes about the commandments, though his was more of taking them from 10 to like 3 or 4.

I would definitely like to see a serious D&D type film. Can you imagine a well written Drizzt with a decent CGI budget?

Thanks for starting your post with "the movie is a bit cringey with it's heavy Christian themes", that saved me some time.

The ending makes more sense if you accept the theory that they're not actually aliens, but are instead some kind of demons, hence the "holy water" working on them

A species with intergalactic travel would probably be smart enough to scan for water. They also might wear spacesuits.

Since we're gatekeeping here, anyone who immediately names Snyder, Wright, Nolan, and Tarantino as their lineup of favorite directors isn't certified to have an opinion on anything related to movies.

It was so that the family could feel direct sacrifice/loss directly to convey the outward situation in the world. Also, 1,000,000 deaths is a statistic while 1 single death can be felt as a tragedy.

It's a bad film that would be relegated to the dustbin of bad movies along with Plan 9 from Outer Space and Manos: Hands of Fate if not for the fact that it's got a bunch of really good songs.
The plot is bad, the acting is bad, the jokes are bad, and the film is fairly aimless. If it wasn't for songs like Dammit, Janet, The Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite, Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul, and Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me, along with Science Fiction Double Feature, the film would well and truly suck.
And even then, it seems like most of the good songs are in the first half of the film.

I think the only real way to enjoy the film is to get wasted on the intoxicant of your choice, and see it in a theater with audience partici..........

Like I said, the ones who didnt go to acting school still had classes or private coaches. Almost every actor has whether they make it big or not

Just a hypothetical, but I remember the film when it was first released on the vhs. A few years later the infamous Hollywood shootout occurred, a couple years after that, the movie Heat w/DeNiro, Pacino and Kilmer was released. Not sure how much the first two influenced the last. But, I think if Tarantino had had the budget, Reservoir Dogs probably would’ve been longer than Heat in run time if the heist had been filmed. And in agreement with another commenter, focusing a decent portion of budget towards the audio quality, and creating the character of K-Billy with Steven Wright as the DJ was a great choice. It gives the movie greater depth, loosely ties the scenes together and (prior to the internet) every city had it’s DJs that everyone that lived there were familiar with, making the film more believable.

First thought: Amy Adams being on the "no acting school" list, I'm slightly dumbfounded. I'll bet anything she at least had drama class in high school.

Same problem here. Is it just a few lines or several minutes of conversation? I saw Wakanda Forever with no subtitles and it was a pain in the ass.

Based on the movies you mentioned, I'd recommend the True History of the Kelly Gang which is very loosely based on the Australian outlaw Ned Kelly.

Depends what you mean by "better". The sequels lean waaay more into the whole Assassin World thing. So if you wanted a lot more about the gold coins and Hitman Hotel and whatever shady organization apparently runs the whole world on that basis, the sequels may be for you.
But no, if you didn't care what happens to John Wick at the end of the first movie, you'll probably not care what happens to him in the second and third movies.
TBH I thought the premise of the second movie was solid, but all that High Table bullshit needed to be thrown in the trash where it belongs.

The first 30 could definitely use some editing. I dig what they were trying to do, because it happens in every D&D campaign; backstories are told, the party is brought together, etc. I definitely think it could have been edited down a bit, a minute here, 30 seconds there, and it would have been a much tighter intro.
