I remember, years ago, there was a Reddit post about what to do to avoid small talk at the hairdressers because OP found it uncomfortable.
The top reply was something like:

If was late at night when I read it and I had to stifle my laughing to avoid waking up my sleeping partner.

Had a person take my groceries out of my open trunk while I was bringing in first two bags. I caught him when I went out for the next bags. Shut the trunk. He was mad (I did tell him where the shelter kitchen was. 2 blocks over)
