Fair question, the street I was mainly parked on was definitely not that busy or tight on parking! And I wasn't parked in one spot the whole time at all, not even always on the same street.

Just to clarify, I definitely didn't leave my car sitting in the same spot for a month. I agree that would be extremely obnoxious! I was coming and going, not always parked on the same side of the street, sometimes parked on a nearby street, went on a little NH trip, etc.

This would all make a lot more sense if I'd done something obviously offensive with my car, but I just honestly didn't.

Also, if I had received a ticket for "excessive non-resident parking" or something, I would have been frustrated but understood. And if someone had said something to me about it or left a note, I would have happily parked on different side streets on different days, I definitely had no intention of causing issues for anyone.

It's the registering my vehicle in 2 states with 2 license plates that's the issue, especially since my insurance company says that they literally can't give me MA insurance since I don't live there.

The people who complain about gentrification are the ones who will never live or even visit these areas until it’s gentrified. I love seeing the wokest people I know complain about rent when they could just move to Mattapan, Roxbury, Hyde Park and save a ton but won’t ever consider it….until it’s gentrified.

Simplified answer that probably won't make you feel better, but hopefully at least makes it make more sense: the supply rate is the price of the electricity that National Grid buys and delivers to you. NG isn't allowed to profit from this charge, so it essentially reflects how expensive it is to generate electricity. About half of the power generation in New England is from natural gas, and because we're natural gas pipeline constrained, we're more dependent on liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports than basically anywhere else in the country. This makes our electricity rates really sensitive to the global LNG market - very bad when there's a war in Ukraine and the rest of Europe is looking for natural gas from non-Russian sources and there's suddenly a lot more demand for a more limited LNG supply. Then in the winter, you add the fact that we're using natural gas for heating too, so both domestic and international demand are higher than in summer or fall, further driving up prices.

TL;DR high LNG demand -> high LNG prices -> high fuel cost for natural gas power generators -> high price to make electricity -> high electricity supply rates. There's more complicated nuances about like rate changes every 6 months and bids and contracts and energy futures but that's the gist of it. It's thankfully going down now in the spring/summer because natural gas prices are down, partly because there's less demand for it for heating.

As for whether you can switch to a different electricity supplier - you can, but I'm not sure which of the non-city suppliers, if any, are good/nonpredatory (I basically only ever see people warning against them).

I’m the child of not-so recent immigrants who resided in Roxbury for decades. What you wrote sounds lovely. Based on living almost all my life here I know for certain that the sense of “community” will rely on the people. We can bring businesses, more housing, and more jobs to the area but if we aren’t fostering that sense of community, none of it will matter or it will eventually go to shit. It will take residents on an individual/household level and our city counselors, the schools, community leaders (activists, clergy), and the police (gasp, I went there!) to work together. I’m hopeful.

Can't they see if a vehicle has a valid permit when they enter the license plate #? I feel like that's how they get people who have moved to another city but have a not-yet-expired resident sticker.

Not all black people are African-American though. There is a very large Nigerian population in the area. If you didn't know, Nigeria was of the main exporters of slaves during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Much of their wealth was built off the back of slaves, so I doubt they care if it is called Dudley Square. Even in Lagos—Nigeria's largest city—there is Tinubu Square, named after a famous slave trader. There is even a statue of her there. Ironically, it was originally called independence square.

Keeping South Boston Irish is bad but any other ethnicity group is protected. South Boston is not even that Irish anymore anyway tho but I love the hypocrisy. With that said. I wish nothing but the upmost prosperity for the Nubian Square and any black business owner that sets up shop there

BBQ Chicken’s a good choice for Korean fried chicken. Also adding to the pile of people recommending Garlic and Lemon. Roxy’s has some pretty good grilled cheese, burgers, and fried chicken sandwich
