I feel the opposite. I spent most of my life in NY and in comparison utilities are a bargain in PA.

Sprinkler, for what? Native foilage doesn't need it.
If you own, install solar and an electric heat pump, and get rid of any gas utilities. The (second) best investment you can make.
If you rent, well, we are fucked, anywhere. They won't invest in properties, and it costs us more every year.

It sucks, but you have to shop around for electricity. If you don't, you end up paying 2x-3x as much as you could otherwise. It's a stupid hoop you have to jump through, but you have to do it to save money nonetheless.

It could have to do with population. PA's population is nearly 13 million compared to Utah's 3.5 million. There are just a lot more people to serve, so demand is much higher.

WHERE I am right now it's $60 for water, sewer and trash, $50 for electric and $118 for gas for an 800 sq ft house.

Im about 20 mi north of Pittsburgh. My latest monthly gas bill is $77. Electric is $170. I pay water quarterly and the last one was $180 (which now that I look at it is a lot higher than it used to be) but still that's only like $300 a month. Where the fuck do you live?

I just moved from Maryland to up by York. I was in Harford County for the previous 4-5 years and Baltimore City for about 15 years before that.
The main reason was that properties are considerably cheaper and I wanted a fairly small house on a fairly decent amount of land, which is more common here. I work from home, but wanted to stay within about an hour of Baltimore so I was still fairly close to friends and family. The school taxes can absolutely murder you in some areas, so you have to watch out for that. But the income tax was like 3.5% less than an unincorporated part of Harford County. I make enough that the lower income tax covers all my property taxes and leaves me with about $500 extra a year.

We had the same experience! For electric heat our bills were $400-600 per month!! So we got natural gas heat to alleviate that cost but now the gas costs $150 and the electric is $150 so some savings but still more in utilities than we ever paid in Maryland

This is anecdotal, of course, but I saw a lot of them in Lancaster County 2-3 years ago. They were all over my property in the summer of 2020 and 2021. This past summer I saw substantially fewer. This probably explains it.

You were vastly underpaying for water if that's the case.

I’m in MontCo and three years ago I’d see dozens a day. Think I saw 1-3 total last year.

And apparently you do not have to know about numbers to work in PA’s HR department.

That's a problem along the creeks where I work too. The floods are seeming to help spread it.

We also saw their numbers diminish in our area. Other animals have definitely figured out they are food.
Now if only there was a predator for the lesser celandine plant taking over Pennsylvania.

I guess it’s just us. My husband drinks beer, I don’t drink much at all, I will buy a bottle of prossecco at Wegman’s if we are celebrating something. No real liquor except when our adult kids come to stay. They like to make martinis so I get everything for that, even order olive juice from Amazon so there’s plenty. So I go in a liquor store a few times a year. But the one closest to me has a very efficient set up for giving out boxes, so I go to the back door when we need boxes.
