If it’s any consolation, the chances of you actually having to report are minimal. I have been on the call list for 2 years now. Every few months, I get my jury summons. When the date comes, I’m always called the day before and told I’m not needed to report. I’m cycled back on the list to report in a few months. Rinse. And repeat.

Just hope that the real estate tax elimination folks don't get their way, because they have proposed increasing income tax by 50% and sales tax by 33% in lieu of real estate taxes. Commercial property owners would be given a gift of free real estate taxes that would be made up for on the backs of residents. In my township, 40% of the real estate collections are from commercial properties, so that's a hell of gift to them and a huge burden for the residents. Not to mention that real estate taxes are a predictable stream of revenue, but income and sales taxes decrease during times of recession, which leads to shortfalls and even more tax increase down the line.

There also needs to be penalties for organizations that lose data. They need be held liable too beyond providing useless "free" credit monitoring.

As of now, companies basically get a free pass. If they were on the hook too, many would improve their security while also seeking ways to collect less data to begin with. Not all of it is necessary and should be treated as a liability not an asset as if often is now.

For those patients affected, they should pursue legal action. If the hospital chooses to fight, likely won't get much, if any, money, but chance they settle and pay out something and/or agree to make meaningful changes to their security practices and data collection.

Grace Mine site. It was General Crushed Stone, then Sheridan Corporation and finally Alan Myers. I worked for Sheridan and Myers. I guess technically it's The Borough of New Morgan. Old route 10 used to run through the middle of the property, the road leading to the quarry was actually old route 10. If you look at an aerial photo of the area its clear as day, when Bethlehem Steel bought the property the State allowed them to re-route Route 10 around the land
