This, its also insane when you realize that if they originally integrated the station with the local neighborhood from the get, it would of cost less than it did now. Fuck whatever subconscious racism that led to build a train station in Newark but not giving access to residents.

Exactly, idgaf about the studio. But i live 5 mins away and commute to nyc every few days for work. I usually hop on 78 and park in jersey city. Now I can just get a ride there or something and sit my ass on the train without having to drive in rush hour traffic

Im sure there are plans to build the area up. Hell, after the PA announced plans to extend the PATH, much of the land around the proposed station was bought up and Im sure developers are already planning residential/mixed use properties to take advantage of another station.

Also, opens up so much more job opportunities for people in those neighborhoods who finally have a more permanent and reliable form of transit to major employment centers like downtown/JC/Hoboken/NYC

They are just opening up the station to the local community. Mainly because of the studios opening up across the street so they need a way to shuttle actors and office workers there.. but the economic opportunity for the area is huge seeing as it basically opens up another area of newark to more investment.

I mean that is why they want to expand the Path to the airport. It would create a NJ Transit station that is basically like Newark Penn that serves Amtrak, Path, and NJ Transit. If you had a train that ran more frequently, the platform and trains would not be crowded.

It is an odd choice. On the other hand it does lend itself it to possible connections with 37, 107 and CoachUSA 24 bus lines and opens up redevelopment opportunities should Newark decide to go that route.

In the 1970's the Port Authority flirted with extending service all the way to Plainfield, via the NEC and CNJ RoW. Some concerns got in the way and eventually when they got the green light, but by then they had lost interested in the project.

The 37 and 107 stops there, so if youre going from say New Brunswick to Weequahik (as a college student might) this will cut at least 20 minutes off your trip each way

I don't think the PA cares about NY other then the Airports and Bridges/Tunnels which are its biggest cash cow. The way the GW Bus Terminal rebuild went and the dinosaur like speed of the PABT rebuilding process shows the agency doesn't care...even the way the handled the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel rebuilds shows that compared to the way the MTA rebuild all their tunnels... As for Rail expansions in Newark , my views have changed over the years... I think the PATH at least the WTC line needs to extend West into Newark Branching off via the old Newark Branch making stops at NJ PAC/Military Park , Courthouse , and then every 15 blocks under Springfield Ave to Route 78... I think there needs to be a North-South Line combining the proposed Newark-Paterson LRT with the shoveled Newark-EWR-Elizabethport-Midtown Elizabeth-Cranford LRT as one high capacity line. I think the PATH 33rd Street line should extend right into the Terminal area of the Airport. There should be Bus Rapid Transit with Stations along I-78 from Summit to Downtown Jersey City. The current Newark LRT should extend to West Orange via the abandoned Orange Branch...

I don't know if people would really get anything out of this station. Unless they worked near it...as there really isn't much residential within walking distance. It would be better to have a station at Meeker Ave along the Raritan Valley Line.
