Reply to Deaf's Delight Café in Newark, New Jersey (the only cafe in the NYC area devoted to the deaf community) is once again at risk of folding. Owner, Sandy Rivers, also says she's currently being evicted from her home apartment due to the money she's put into the café. by madsheb
Landlord forces her to keep her business closed for 6 months because they didn't repair the roof in a timely manner and then surprised Pikachu face when she can't pay rent because her business wasn't open... Unbelievable.
Why would she be required to pay rent if the location was uninhabitable due to the roof? Sounds like she needs a lawyer pro bono to tell her landlord to fuck off. I hope someone like the ACLU helps her.

I wonder how much rent the landlord is charging. Probably too much for a storefront that is off the beaten path. When I lived in teachers village, it was usually empty. I'm sad to read this because the owner was a very friendly person.

I made a donation. Deaf's Delight is such an asset to the community.

Newark is strict about dispensary locations. For example, you can open one up on the north side of Market street but not on the south side.

I wish a dispensary could open in one of those vacant spots or a college sports bar.

Reply to comment by GhostOfRobertTreat in Anyone know what’s planned at the vacant lot next to the IDT garage on the corner of Lombardy and Atlantic? They brought an excavator on-site this week and started clearing and grubbing the space. Tried looking up permits online to get more info but no luck. by plattypus412
They should. Public info but they absolutely hide it. However you can check the state websites for various actions at addresses.

Yikes, that's a bad look.
The security guards are used to me passing through, so there was no way I could test this out myself.
On the Instagram page I linked to in a different comment, they specifically said it's open.
People could technically try showing the security guards the Instagram post as proof, but that's still a run around that people shouldn't have to do.
It's like having to prove you're not a criminal.

It always was a mall. Just a failed one. The 2018 tenants were Dunkin (2x), Pharmacy, Margaritas coffee/lunch, chicken shop, Devils fan store, convenience store, pizza place

Who the fuck designed this shit, and why didnt McIver tell me when I contacted her office multiple times?

UPDATE:
It is not in fact open. Passed by at 6:40pm, and they still had the same two ugly signs plus four (4) security guards. The Mulberry Street side still has the ugly caution tape blocking the main doors

It’s 100% in the east ward. Broad street around the arena up to Clinton street is all east ward. #NewarkPolitics

I wasn’t sure, so I looked it up.
You’re right, it goes to the train tracks, except for a weird cutout section.
Because of that cutout, Gateway isn’t in the Central Ward. Basically, City Hall to some border including Market, Clinton, and Raymond is a part of East award.
