This does happen a lot already. As the other commenter mentioned most picket lines are trying to get the public not to buy from the company. Sometimes unions also call for boycotts.

These folks didn't really have the broad base of support or the funding to do that effectively though. That's one of the big risks of forming an independent union.

Not the comment OP but I actually heard a version of this story (not sure about the drugs or the parents), and one about the little white church on Old Bath Rd about Crooker when he was being honored at an annual Southern MidCoast Maine Chamber event at the Taste of Maine around 2010/2012

Supposedly the church on Old Bath Rd was the church where Crooker met his wife, and when he heard it was being torn down, he bought the building, took it apart and had it rebuilt where it currently stands, so that that memory/place could live on.

Reply to comment by hjboots in Maine Maple Failure. by JqD2_

There is a local sugar shack in my town that does a big maple weekend, then honor system the rest of the year. They leave a crate of their syrup on the porch and a jar. I have tried others in my town and his is by far the best.

He charges $18/qt, but whenever I go get some, I just leave a $20.
