Sky guide is pretty good, though I can’t remember if it’s free. Stellarium is awesome, can go back/forth in time to see astrological events, again not sure if that’s free either.

You need pretty dark skies to see auroras. Portland is way too bright unless it's a massive, massive solar storm.
Portland is too bright for viewing even moderately bright sky objects.

Why do we have to spend public dollars on it though? I don’t get a free police escort of dozens of vehicles if one of my family members die and free transport of their remains so why do they get special treatment?
