Bro when I was a kid we were warned by rangers in Acadia at Blackwooda campground that we needed to LOCK OUR DOORS or the raccoons would get into our vehicle.

My dad didn't believe that so he didn't. They opened our minivan at like 3 in the morning and shat everywhere I got in trouble for laughing to much.

It’s a pretty chill area depending on what street you live on. Water st and certain parts of eastern Waterville / Fairfield area can be sketchy. Cops watch the bars like hawks which sucks but overall I don’t mind it here.

Well I don't know that they have any bagels there.

Their food is pretty decent... Good pizza! If you want unpretentious bar food and a cool old townie bar, go here. If you want to feel like you're going to some fancy restaurant, don't.

For real though! I’ll never understand this automatic reaction. I’m a queer in a hetero marriage wherein the most deviant thing we do is argue loudly and in public about the queerness of Sam and Frodo. I just want friends to join in the fun nerdy debate, not join in an orgy 🙄

I lived in downtown Portland during the raccoon crisis of 1984. I think we all remember that, huh?

So, At. John Street, and this mama raccoon keeps messing with my trash can on the third story, very unsturdy deck.

So I keep picking up the daily hijinks. I own a pretty big sword and decide, I'm done with this little nature's bandit.

So I get out my Conan-clone sword and set up at the sofa near the deck.... And I wait and wait.

So, this little pack of four baby raccoons trot up to our deck, this fat, pissy mama raccoon right up on them, and they approach my locked garbage cans and literally, unlock them.

I'm amazed. I just watch. They all eat, make a mess and leave.

I just couldn't attack them. No way.

The McDonalds mansion in Freeport is the classiest place in Maine as others have said.

Personally, I think either the East or West End in Portland would be a nice spot due to all sorts of restaurants and breweries and such not being so far. Or something along the Acadia Park Rd / Cadillac Mtn (just know you need reservations now).

If you want a relatively quiet spot check out Grafton Notch - nice waterfalls and mountains, short hikes with great views, and not too far from Bethel (which isn't huge but has some business)
