Are we seriously gonna act like this isn't a Looney Tunes script?

1.) Water front concerts, this summer: Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Weezer, tedeschi trucks, Chris Stapleton, Santana, Lumineers, Nickelback, Hank Williams Jr, Pantera, goo goo dolls.

2.) An hour from one of the best national parks in the eastern united States

3.) A nice casino

4.) Tons of bars and restaurants

5.) Miles of accessible hiking within a short drive

6.) A decent airport to fly to the rest of the country.

7.) Lots of shopping if your into that

What else could you ask for an eastern Maine town?

As the post said we are not from Maine so we don't have any places special to us. Could really care less about Instagram, just looking for somewhere that is beautiful to share this moment together. But thank you for your negative judgement and advice!

Gonna second the recommendation of Universal Bread. Best baguette outside of Portland. Just get there early as they sell out regularly.

Other good food in the area:

Big G’s in Winslow for giant, unique sandwiches.

Meridians in Fairfield for well-executed upscale gastropub type fare.

Buen Apetito for reliable Mexican food. Some great salsas there.

Most places in the area make reasonably decent food, but you’re also only 25 minutes from Augusta/Hallowell/Gardiner for better quality & a lot more variety.

Like, Jewel of India is passable for curry, but you can do way better by driving down to Mughal Palace in Chelsea.

I grew up in Bangor area and live in Winslow. When I returned to maine after being away for 20 years, a month spent in Bangor and I was hell bent on NOT settling in Bangor. I like Waterville area much better. 1 hour in each direction and you’re at the ocean, mountains, or Bangor or Portland if you want.

Repair shop owner here. I know this wasn't your question but I have to throw this out there..... The amount of major jobs we have done on Chevy Trax/Chevy Cruze (same drivetrain) lately has been ridiculous. Turbos, fuel rails, oil coolers, etc. Especially on 2014 and up. There is a reason these things are inexpensive to buy. They were produced largely as fleet vehicles and not made to last. Pretty much all cars have their quirks but as far as I'm concerned these vehicles are hot garbage. If people keep buying them I am going to be able to retire young.

At around noon on Sunday, on Post Road, a raccoon attacked a cat named Tuxedo.

The raccoon then moved, two houses down from the other, and attacked a man who was getting the newspaper. Animal Control says the raccoon came out from underneath his car and that he managed to get back in his house after the attack.

The raccoon then moved across the street again and got into a fight with the original cat.

A man driving by saw this fight, stopped his car, getting out to shoot and kill the raccoon. The raccoon will be tested for rabies.

Animal control officer Cliff Daigle was investigating this scene and passing out flyers, when a woman reported to him that she saw another raccoon with a baby raccoon.

This other raccoon attacked a German Shepherd in the area by a fence, with the raccoon on the outside of the fence and the dog on the inside.

A sheriff's deputy did not have a clear shot to shoot the raccoon because of the dog in the way and the raccoon then ran under a wood pile.

Daigle and the deputy started to take the wood pile apart but it was frozen solid, not allowing them to get to the raccoon.

They absolutely do not.

I've driven many winters with only FWD, and a handful with AWD, with otherwise similar vehicles. The step from all-seasons to winter tires was mind blowing. The step from FWD to AWD was almost negligible. The only times it matters are when you're stuck in your driveway or screwing around.

Honestly, without the skill, most people get themselves into way more trouble with AWD because they THINK they have more traction than they really do. Stopping distance and cornering grip are exactly the same with FWD vs. AWD, but massively different with all-seasons vs. snows.

Basically the area between Silver St. and the Kennebec River, bounded by downtown at the north end and the cemetary to the south.

It's the lower-income, higher-crime part of town, but you have to put that in perspective--it's still Maine, not Detroit. It's not the part of town I'd want to live in if I moved back, but I think the comment you're replying to makes it out to be worse than it actually is.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Lion's Den restaurant, Awesome food.

The south end/Water St area has a lot of run down older apartments. You would probably never have a problem living in that area.

I lived in the north end Ticonic street area for 9 years. Never once had an issue other than my car was burgled once (forgot to lock my doors, damn kids).

And if you're looking for marijuana, Waterville is your town! Couple of recreational stores and you can't spit without hitting one of the 56 bazillion medical places.

It will definitely feel a lot smaller than Bangor, but for a town that size it has a decent amount going for it (mostly thanks to Colby money).

Walking/skiing/bike trails on Quarry Rd, movies at the new Schupf Arts Center, shows at the opera house, decent bars/restaurants downtown. A lot of people still kind of have a bad opinion of Waterville but I liked living there more than Augusta.
