The most effective way to start to overcome these is to realize they're an issue. Even regular people often don't notice when they're falling for these pitfalls. Gaining insight can be very productive.

Of course, not everyone is ready to or going to gain insight here. But it might be helpful for those who are ready, and just need a little direction to get started.

“I feel out of place like there is no point in trying because I know I’ll never change and I’ll just end up where I started.”

Not with that attitude.

Start with the attitude. Then go for the surroundings.

If you are an actor on the stage, keep your spotlight on you. Focus is everything. And life is hard to change if you focus on too much.

It took me 3 application cycles to get into med school. I sat the £250 entrance exam 3 times. I completed a full-time Master's degree in a year whilst working full-time to help improve my chances. This quote was a small something that helped spur me on. Eventually I made it and I'm a Doctor now.

Going outside and watching sunrise is this meme in real life. Whenever I do roll out of bed and get outside to watch sunrise, the animals are having a party. Birds going nuts. Deer running across a field. Hard not to feel some gratitude. And incidentally the wavelengths of sunlight on the horizon anchor all of your biological processes, fix up when hormones are expressed that optimizes every other activity for the rest of the day including improving mood. Hate that it's an ideas my grandmother would recommend. If you're ever experiencing what you think is depression, try out sunrise. Feels like it works.
