It still is easy to say this since you got another chance after your failures.

Many of us who do fail? Never get a second chance. We fail once? That's it. We never get another chance.

I have to disagree abit. The post can also be seen as setting a base line for being enough. Savoring, being grateful about the little things and putting your perspective about “enough” are healthy self-care practices.

Why? Because in general we have 2 very harmful features of our brain:

  1. It gets used to stuff really quickly.
  2. Our strongest intuitions (predictions) are often wrong.

Any change no matter the degree over time will quickly diminish in value so there is a constant desire for more. This is called Hedonic Adaptation. The second point is that we tend to catastrophize and overestimate the value of needing. Like we need to pass this test or need this particular type of job to be happy.

If you’re interested there’s a course on Coursera call the Science of Well Being by Yale University. It’s free to audit.

TLDR: Setting base lines of being enough or having enough can increase our enjoyment of what we do have and reduce catastrophizing and Hedonic Adaptation.

This guy does not belong in a motivational sub. He's been caught on camera assaulting people numerous times and has been accused of sexual violence by multiple women. He also completely lies about his home country so that he can create a fake persona for an American audience to get excited about.... I mean look at him there with his Ivory Coast flag. The Ivorians must be so embarrassed by him

At the risk of entering circle-jerk territory, I want to say 'thank you' for making me feel less insane & isolated for being kind of disgusted by this post.

Don't hate yourself needlessly & deprive yourself of basic needs, but sweet gherkin, you can't have everything you want! That's like, rule #1 of life, not just a rule of society.

God, that would get philosophers arguing.

Epictetus, a Stoic philosopher said that “Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.”

Being worthy for not wanting stuff in the first place as opposed to trying to grasp things out of reach that ego dictates you are worthy of is somewhat narcissistic and compensatory

Sports is the easiest analogy. We can all show up to practice when the coach tells us to. But there are people who workout before practice, go to practice, and do drills after practice.

Or an entrepreneur example. When the customers are flowing it’s easy to put the work in. But success will be driven by the work done during the down periods.

This isn’t to say we need to give pro level education to everything we do.

I’ve played in a men’s basketball league and I was just fine being an amateur! You won’t see me giving the sport serious dedication.

We’ve all got things we’re serious about and things we take lightly.

I’ve been struggling a lot with not eating the rich, feeling like maybe I shouldn’t just because I want to, but this meme has definitely helped me to realise I do deserve to eat the rich, thank you! ❤️

again, the sign doesn’t say that.

not saying the sign is right in all scenarios, but it’s a surface message that you’re deliberately overgeneralizing lol. what do you expect? a list of exceptions in fine print?
