I think it’s referring more towards your authentic self. Not the mask you have in front of friends and the persona you carry on nor the mask you have when with family, but when you are alone and your most vulnerable and genuine self. I think this can also refer to your ambitions and aspirations that aren’t created by external influences such as your parents wanting you to be a doctor, lawyer, etc. or even what the world expects of you, but rather what YOU actually want and who you want to be. I think it means to be you despite any fear of being judged.

What about quitting drinking alcohol, quitting doing drugs, or self harming? It’s still quitting.

The first time I heard this was from David Sedaris reading "You Can't Kill the Rooster".
He mentions it at 11:25
NSFW for language

but the whole story is definitely worth a listen:

edit: added NSFW language warning.

I heard a kid of my age should do at least one hour of moderate physical acitivity daily. I do not really fit in that requirement...

Exiting from an abusive relationship is not quitting. Choosing your value as a person is not quitting. Self love will never be an act of quitting.

I agree with you. There's a time on my life that I am tempted to quit because it seems like the universe is not giving what I wanted. Then I go back to my "why". My reason why I started doing it in the first place

Personally, I start with identifying what triggers or causes the tank to drain. See if those can be minimized and/or avoided.
Here's a few other things you can try:
- Nature, take a walk, breath fresh air.
- Mindfulness and meditation
- Sounds cheesy, but thankfulness, make a list of things you're thankful for, this refills positive energy
- Don't negate the basics. (staying hydrated, eating healthy, quality sleep)

I can spend a lot of time acting like others want me to act, until I start to realize that is not really who i am, it is just who I was told that I am and it doesn't suit me

If you are genuinely a horrible person who has been faking nice but then you start spending more time being horrible, You will have a harder time faking. Or, if you are genuinely not horrible but have been pretending to be, you won't want to be anymore. So, which is it?

I knew it was Sedalia but couldn’t remember the book.
I was like 13 when I read that and the phrase has stuck with me ever since.

I love running, I didn’t fit in athletically until late high school and it was definitely running that first got me into what it means to enjoy fitness. Today I’m proud of how far my body has come
