  1. are you sure you aren’t using green wood? That may explain the smoke/hard to stay lit? See if you can get your hands on wood you know has been dried and see if you have the same problem.

  2. could you call the installer and ask their advice? If they were kind enough to throw it in after the fact… may be able to offer some advice (especially if you make it clear you aren’t asking them to come back and fix it)

Black and Decker usually has a cheap tool set with a drill, 3 sets of bits, interchangeable ratchet screwdriver, small level, measuring tape and bunch of other stuff at Crappy Tire that usually goes on sale for around 59.99-69.99 a couple times a year. They always have the set and it goes on “sale” all the time, but only goes that low once or twice a year. IFYKYK. I’ve since significantly upgraded but I got a lot of use out of that stuff, and I still have most of the odds and ends hanging out in the toolbox that come in handy sometimes.

He dug burrows under my shed last year and now he’s reared his ugly head again. I’ve tried plugging them but to no avail he’s determined to stay. I threw firecrackers down the holes and I even shot him with a pellet gun but it didn’t do anything but kept him more alert to me. I don’t want to harm him but when animals get destructive it’s war. I’ve read also that ammonia and also applying epsom salt around the area but I’m tired of playing. I’m going to HD and some hardware cloth and bury it about a foot around the perimeter after I treat the area so he’s not trapped after I do it. Thanks for reply

I'll second this. I had my tub and shower insert ripped out and hired a contractor to do a full custom shower, and I really wanted a bench. River rock floor, huge beautiful tiles on the wall, and the bench built to match both. The guy did a fantastic job, it came out great, it was exactly what I wanted.

I hated it. It was constantly covered in bottles. It was uncomfortable to sit on because if you didn't spray water on it for 5 minutes it was freezing cold. It took up space that I was constantly reminded I might have wanted to stand in. It accumulated more shower "grime" than the rest of the shower even though it was properly sloped. It was wide enough for two people, which was great for all the times you showered alone, or all the times when you did shower with a partner and wanted the extra room to stand in. Fucking stupid idea.

Someone on a jobsite gave me shit about measuring the water and using a timer on my phone to mix allset. I told them an engineer with a degree in mortar figured out the best way to mix this stuff, and when I do it exactly that way it comes out perfect.

I felt silly the first couple times I used a timer, but it actually doesn't look or feel right if I don't mix, slake and remix pretty close to the recommended times.

I poured ammonia around, then dig a trench and put chicken wire all around so he couldn't dig a hole again. I don't think you can kill them.

It’s kind of a complicated story, but we got a number of quotes. However, the planning permission changed the scope of the job. We initially wanted the same thing with a bedroom above it, and it has been knocked back by planning.

I don’t really wanna get into how many quotes et cetera. The situation is half of my house wall is missing to the side and I have a feeling a man is doubling the price to get the garage built. Unless this is a reasonable price

Eh, fair point. But sometimes you need to pilot hole a stud (like for hanging a TV mount). Tapping in a hole with a screwdriver also sounds less than ideal. You might twist the shank when you strike and overbore the opening, get a loose fit, etc.

I bought the Dewalt drill/driver combo set like 10 years ago. $100 on sale, worth every penny. I'm sure B&D or Ryobi sells an even cheaper set.
