Yup. I know someone who stores firewood under their porch and this is what they do.

Agreed. Not much more useful than a perch for one's foot if shaving your legs....or for bottles

Not the plumber, but for one you have screws into the backer board very close to the floor. They probably go through the liner which is a big no-no.
You also have screws through the top of the curb which definitely go through the liner. Again, big bad.
If this were my shower, I would look at wrapping the whole thing in a membrane like Kerdi. You can also incorporate you bench this way as well. The one thing I don't know (and hopefully the plumber will return to answer), is if you can bond the Kerdi membrane to the PVC pan liner. Google says Kerdi-fix will do the trick, but I'd do more research if it were me.
Here's a great 15 minute video on how to completely waterproof your shower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hPMWc22oK8
PS. get that gravel off of the liner before someone steps on it and pokes a hole.

So I’m trying to make one of those “SOS I need an organ!” Can someone offer advice on where or how to print them?
11.5 x 3 Bumper stickers (like 10 or 20 at most)
Every time I think I’ve found something affordable they want you to print like 100 of them or their shipping cost is insane ($33 on one of them)
I was debating printing my own at Office Depot or Staples but I’m not sure how to go about doing that

can you explain this part again? "We poured cement (not pictured) and it's very hard because that's what cement does when you pour it"
jk, it made me laugh...
joking aside, not sure if this is feasible or not, but if it is cement under this bench, can you cut out just 1 tile at top of bench, pour cement in and wait for it to set? you'd have to temporarily frame the tiles else I imagine the initial weight of the cement might push out the tiling but just temporarily...

Not a plumber but the liner usually goes on the inside of the walls so the bottom of the wall isn't sitting in water.

You can "drill" holes in drywall with a screwdriver and a hammer. If we were talking about woodworking, I'd agree; but this is homeowner stuff, they need to not over drive and strip screws more than clean holes.

Get your stuff at harbor freight. You'll be fine. Brand new house doesn't need the top quality tools. Bower or something like that at the freight.

This is exactly what I used and my shower is that first picture. I installed it after the tile on the floor.

I have a walabot. Meh. I just use my magnet with a level on it. I forget I even have the walabot until I see it when grabbing something else from the tool box.

I love my CH Hanson magnet stud finder. Never going to be disappointed to find that the stud finder has dead batteries. The only downside is that I can't point it at myself to verify that it works.

Interesting approach - would definitely be very secure but the back is visible through the inside of the cabinet (the back is a thin sheet of - I believe - MDF with a teak veneer on it), so my preference would be to retain it so I don’t have to stain anything or see the screws on the inside that go into the wall. That said, appreciate you sharing your thoughts and expertise!

That's what I use. Absolutely invaluable piece of equipment.
I believe they all or almost all have an indicator to let you know if there are electrical lines as well.
Another option is a wall a bot which is a smartphone peripheral that displays an "image" of what it senses behind the wall.

You can add furniture that is removable replaceable, not permanent. That is the better idea.

For power tools ryobi is probably the best bang for your buck option. I personally prefer Milwaukee tools but they are a lot pricier and I justify it by doing a LOT of work on my house DIY.

I'd say: go with the wood panel idea, you can get some thin plank or a decent looking piece of ply cut to size for the walls of the hole, sand it lightly and varnish/oil it to make it look a little nicer and polished.
Then surround the edges of the laminate flooring above and the ceiling below with with edging profiles like this:
You can probably find brass, wood or black ones depending on what you think would look nice.
Personally, I'd go with wood edging strips stained/varnished to match the siding wood and the upstairs flooring, but it's not my home - you do you and make it your own.
