Reply to Connecticut's Elder Care Reckoning by ctmirror
Thanks for posting these, definitely on my list to read today. I’ve worked in a nursing home for over three years and did a few years of non medical home care before that so I’ve seen different sides of the same issues. Nice to see more attention being brought to this.

I second this. A rake and bag of fertilizer from Lowe’s/Home Depot will cost you almost nothing and your lawn will look the same.

I didn't have a front plate for 12 years and never had an issue. The day before my son was going to take his driver's license test with my car, I found out there can be no missing plates (among other things) or that car could not be used in the test. I had to rush to the DMV to re-register my car and they gave me two new plates. I miss my old one.

Aiello is highway robbery. They will quote $4500 for a water heater replacement that should cost no more than $1500.

I've never had an issue with no front plate. I won't take delivery of a new car if they drill holes in the front bumper. Buddy of mine hasnt had one for 10 years and he's gotten one ticket by a state cop up on uconn Storrs campus. Pretty sure he just paid it and never fixed it. Like many motor vehicle infractions in ct it's just pay to play. Like with tints for example, it's cheaper to pay the ticket than it is to remove the tints. And it's easier to pay the ticket than to take the time off of work to remove it and go to the dmv for proof to get the ticket dropped.

This is true, they have their own town-owned power company. It's dirt cheap and seemingly always online. We never lost power when I lived in Wallingford in 2010-2011 even during those giant snowstorms that took everyone out.

I mean you can look up Wallingford taxes compared to your town and see if it’s a significant increase. I would rather reallocate where taxes are distributed but that’s just me.

The best route to commute is finding another job. That's absolutely asinine of them to request that of you.

Yup! Wallingford owns their electric company and offsets the cost with taxes. Stop privatizing energy and the cost goes down dramatically.

I’m wondering if you download the app will it let you see your bills? If not, call Eversource and ask for paper statements until they’re able to put your bills on the website.
Changing providers will reduce your bill a lot!!! Good move. Rates change twice a year with Eversource. January 1st and July 1st. The new supplier will be on your bill, along with the date the supplier stop providing your electricity. If by chance you don’t change suppliers before the date, call Eversource and switch back to them while you decide who to switch to next. They’ll switch you within 3 days. It’s important to know because once your low rate ends with your new supplier, it increases significantly when it expires. They will email you and send a letter before the rate expires so it’ll be hard to miss, especially with it also listed on your bill. Early cancellation fees are illegal in CT. If you see a better deal-switch again.

You need hear from parents who are currently in the system with kids in the special education program. Join the Facebook group by searching CT family special needs network and ask in the group. It will give you better results. Also be more specific with what type of accomodations your child will need

It's expensive as hell, but I don't know if I'd call it a scam. Those poor bastards in Texas a couple years back that got a $17,000 electricity bill during a snowstorm... now that seems more like a scam than anything Eversource does to us.

I can only speak for Monroe since I grew up and went to school there. They have a very very good special needs curriculum and amazing paraprofessionals from k-8. Highschool I don't recall much about their special needs programs.
