Large amount of renters. Also a lot of college kids.

Schools probably not so good.

Rent seems about average for central ct area

It’s centrally located that’s what draws people here and it costs less than Hartford?

It’s not a bad spot to live but not a great spot. Been here 5 years so far and I’m ready to move somewhere quieter.

Hmm something isn’t right here… it seems they don’t have a way to properly account for states that don’t levy flat fees. NH is listed as $31, which is absolute bullshit. NH registration is scaled to the value of the car (literally like a property tax). When my fiancé lived there, she paid ~$500 per year for a three year old car valued around $17k. Even her previous car, a ten year old Subaru valued around $8k was costing her $200 a year in registration.

All this to say…they simply did an average and “forgot” many people don’t own cars…

It's terrible. Even if you were driving with absolutely no traffic, it's still 60 miles one way. By train it's at least 90 minutes one way. From Fairfield it's a terrible, but doable, commute, never mind two more towns up the line.

Stamford would be your best bet. You would be shaving off at least 30 min of train time (or more if you catch the express). But the cost of living is much higher there than in Stratford. So you have to weigh your pros and cons. Would you be commuting every day? If not, you can get away with Stratford.

I love Middletown. Routes 9 and 91 are your friends. Somebody did say you could get Amtrak nonstop out of Berlin or Wallingford. AND it’s FAR better than any commute that involves I-84 during rush hour. But I suspect that Berlin, Wallingford or West Hartford itself would be best. I-84 will just lead to Murder or a divorce - especially if she has to drive from anywhere west of Waterbury! 🤣

I’d say anything down the i91 corridor south of Cromwell. You can take express train into city from New Haven. She can avoid Hartford traffic by going up Route 9. Depends on how long you’re willing to drive to New Haven.
