Why is it so much? I, too, will need to transfer my registration to Maryland (coming from Ohio) and when I looked into it the cost was a little under $300. My girlfriend got the same number when looking into transferring her registration from North Carolina to Maryland.

OMG! feeling blessed with registering one car only.

Maryland used to (apparently still does) charge a sales tax difference between the rate where it was registered and what the current MD rate is. It's an effort to avoid having people but cars in low tax neighbor States, but it seems rather petty to me. It sounds like that's what they're hitting you for

This is around what I had to deal with when I moved from Indiana and brought my cars over. I sadly had 3 cars to register and it was around $900 per vehicle. Luckily though, after that I haven't had anything near that bad and it's about $200 every 2 years which is much more manageable.

Not sure about coming from out of state, but I recently bought a new car and I paid about $300 total, and that included the dealer’s handling fees.

Third agree that the 29/32 area is the right one for this commute. There are several options to get down to CP, and if you’re a UMD employee they may still do the bus to campus. You may need to up your budget however.

Going along with all the CA comments, I was a front desk attendant at one of their gyms and it was pretty chill too! They give you a free Fit + Play membership so you get access to all the gyms and all the pools once they're open in the summer too.

Back in the day, I would have suggested the Palace 9.
Now, depending on your career path, it's never a bad time to start a path to waiting tables and bartendering by getting some experience busing tables and being a bar back. Waiting tables in your teens and early 20s is way better than hourly minimum-wage employment

And they pay weekly. However, depending on which giant matters. My daughter definitely struggled at ours and after 3 months I made her quit. They have since had a major change in management but she found a lovely part time job since then.

When I was that age I worked at the East Columbia Library (in Owen Brown) and worked as a summer camp counselor for Howard County. The library was a very chill relaxing job. Being a camp counselor was super fun.
Lots of my friends were also CA lifeguards as many people suggested above.

My co-worker's daughter worked at the new(ish) Charmery by Merriwether. Seemed like fun for a kid that age.

Columbia Association, be a lifeguard. Its a chill job with reasonable hours with everyone around your age. They pay for your training which includes CPR training. You stay in shape, get decent pay and get a free CA membership.
