Wait, you weren't the dude shambling up and down my driveway - and those of my neighbors - picking up stones the other day, were you? I was wondering about what was going on there but wasn't exactly interested enough that I thought it warranted going outside.

I used to see Shiva Barton but looks like they have moved practices to Winchester. There is a practice off Mass Ave in Arlington (not far) called Balance Natural as well - have heard good things.

Pemberton Farms is in Cambridge on Mass Ave close to the Arlington town line. You can use the #1 bus. Also, the Seven Stars book store in Central Square sells precious stones but not a precious prices.

Buses have plenty of weird pronunciations.

garden centers, pet stores, home depot etc will have them
i have seen them in some landscaping where you could probably pilfer a few unnoticed but don't remember exactly where. some of the bougie new projects around kendall square would be a good place to start.

I need some decent control on the final diameter. This is basically a shoulder bolt where I want to take the head diameter down to match the shoulder.

What about an angle grinder or grinder blade on a drill? Those should go through hardened steel pretty easily.

Couldn’t agree more. Had a nice view out onto the square too

For just two bolts can you put it in a vise and use a Dremel or something? Seems like overkill to use a lathe unless it needs to be really precise or something.

That would be aligned with the pronunciation of Linnaeus that it's presumably named after.

I checked their website and don't see a lathe listed. The Foundry is really just a community dance center and not an actual makerspace.
The bolt is hardened steel, so I don't think a drill and a file will end up being a workable solution.
Maybe I'll just find someone at Artisan's Asylum who will accept beer as payment.

I grew up near that street. I always called it this.

Might try The Foundry in Kendall Sq. It has a metalworking shop. (I can’t speak to whether it has a lathe.) Alternatively, if you have an electric drill that you can strap to a work surface, stick the bolt in the chuck and turn the head down with a metal file.

Haha no that wasn't me. I try to avoid taking stones from folks' private property...although I confess I have pilfered a few in the past from various big tech campuses' landscaping...
