if you want to stay in the place your best bet is to use these as leverage in negotiation to lower your rent further. AC and in unit laundry are amenities worth far more than $300 a month, imo. Or as others have mentioned just break the lease.

I would also ask about electrical - is there a 220v hookup for a future wash and dryer? You should negotiate a cheaper rent then buy a cheap wash/dry unit for yourself.

Chico’s is always friendly and honest. It’s my go-to place for anything like an oil change, inspection or any other general auto maintenance.

Chico's is my go to for everything. Very honest, no nonsense. As an example, they have proactively located used used parts(transmission) for us in the past to provide an option to bring down cost and not throw a new transmission in a car that didn't have too long left.

Foreign Auto Center has always been honest with me ("you don't need to do this service yet"), although I haven't shopped around to compare prices. My oil change is $75 parts and $20 labor for a Golf GTI.

Brazilians are spread literally everywhere all over Mass. Seems to have a big cluster in Framingham, much larger than other cities but you may find a small community in other towns like Cambridge and Everett as well. As for how much income, depends on where you live and lifestyle but for a family of 4 to be 'comfortable' I'd say $200K if you can minimize unnecessary splurges and want to save some money as well

The area is generally very diverse up and down the income ladder. Your kids will not stand out for being immigrants, and neither will you. Cambridge proper is quite expensive. You’re looking at $2.5k+ for a 2 bedroom. Rule of thumb is housing should be <30% of pre-tax income to not be financially constrained. Prices are somewhat lower as you move away from Boston, but stay surprisingly high on the commuting corridors. I.e. if you’re close to a highway or commuter rail line, it’s like you’re close to Boston.

As a place to live Cambridge is delightful, except for the housing costs which range from infuriating to life threatening depending on your income :)

Sounds like a firework that went off wrong. Which was probably everyone's guess, anyway. Do you know if any emergency personnel arrived?

I was about half a block from where it happened -- intersection of Bishop Allen and Main St. There was a loud bang and then a MUCH larger boom with a flash of light, and smoke. My dog was freaking out so I didn't go out to check on it, but there wasn't anything obvious left in the street where it happened.

There’s a big Brazilian community in Cambridge/Somerville. There’s a bunch of restaurants and a grocery store. There’s also schools that teach kids in two languages, including Portuguese.

Not sure about income for a family of 4 as I’m single with no kids, but rent is pretty outrageous in Cambridge. I pay $2300 for a 2bd, which is almost unheard of, my landlord is just very nice and doesn’t raise the rent when he likes the tenants.

What does your lease say?

You could argue that it was misrepresented and agree to terminate the lease, if you don't want to live there. If you like it otherwise, tell them you'll buy a new washer and dryer and deduct it from the rent. As for the AC, not much you can do about that. Maybe ask for another reduction, but if they said it's already reduced then that's not likely.

I'm not aware of any specific provision in Massachusetts regarding misrepresentation of housing. It's probably just covered by regular contract law.

IANAL. Read your lease. Does it say anything about air conditioning or laundry appliances? If so, they aren't upholding the lease and you could at a minimum break it I would think. Alternatively you could maybe claim false advertising, but...honestly, being able to break the lease is probably the best you can hope for. Legally they're required to provide heat, but not AC, and definitely not laundry.

I’m near Lord Hobo and heard it in my apartment, also heard the car alarm after. I hope we find out what it was soon
